  • Vienna Ensemble 3 Multible Instances in Logic Studio ...HELP!!! suicidal tendencies...!!!

    heyho,

    ok... I have tried...tried...tried...

I don't find the solution... I only would like to open more then one instance in Logic Studio...

    what I have done:

I have 4 Multi-Instruments in Logic (Strings, Woodwinds, Brass, Drum). What I did was opening a VE-Multi-CHannel for each instrument... they opened and I have defined the instruments, outputs, panning a.s.o. AND: I have defined AUx-Channels for each instrument of the VE in my Logic-Environment. They appear in the mixer-window! Everything fine...BUT:

These FOUR VEs are running on ONE instance!!! It's only one opened (activity monitor) and I get big Problems by playing more then 6-7 Tracks... that means: Playing in ONE of these VEs (for exmple: strings) works, playing another instrument from another VE (for example Brass) I get my clipping and overload...

That's why I looked for the problem and saw that there was only ONE instance!!!

    ok... now my question(s).

I have already defined (by copy and paste) more then one VE-Instance. I named them Vienna Ensemble II,III,IV,V.

I can open then and load my defined projects. No problem. SO I have here my 4 instances (I see them in activity monitor) and on the other screen I have my Logic.

HOW can I configure my multiple instruments in order to play my different instances? If I define diferent midi-Instruments I am able to play the different VE-Instruments... but I have NO AUDIO! I see it in the mixer of the VE, I see it in the mixer of my Fireface 800, but nothing happens!

It cannot be that I have to root the instruments in my fireface out, then in, then in my logic... I don't think so...

THERE MUST BE A WAY to open the instances and to play and root them directly like I did before with my multiple instruments...

First I always open "Vienna Ensemble Service". The window is white. When I open my song with the 4 in 1 Ensembles then 4 windows are appearing, they connect and I can play...but not so many tracks.

When I open only "Vienna Ensemble Service" and my 4 single-Instances (stand-alone) with my different projects I have NO chance to root them... there is no possibility to click somewhere... no window... only the mixer/instrument-window of the VE.

I find NO way to get a connection with one of my multi-instruments (for example: strings with 6 tracks: VI,VI divisi, VII,VA,CE,BS) to the stand-alone-VE. NO way.

I know I am doing something wrong... (no question....!)...but I don't know where to search for the mistake... and the Ensemble_3-Manual sais: it's possible to open more then one instance in Logic).... GREAT!!! BUT HOW??????????????????

it's a little bit like: the sun will shine tomorrow.... ok.... but WHERE?????????????

I think it must be explained (step by step?) somewhere.... believe me I have searched for... I hope you can help me.. I have only 36 hours more to finish a really important project... and now I need all these instruments... and I have configured everything... I don't want to configure every instrument again with all it's parameter settings.... PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!

    THANK YOU!

  • Hi!

I was informed that my colleague Christian K. is already in contact with you regarding this problem (?).

  • I have exactly the same problem: I have a MacPro 8core with 14Gb Memory and Logic Pro8 I first loaded the Vienna Ensemble demo (from this site). It gives a great idea of the tutorial explaining the work order of the demo ( first bosendorfer then keys then wood added then strings and brass) When I run the demo I get a CPU meter reading : 7 cores almost nothing.. the 8th core some times clipping! Research on the forum said that Memory limitations of the plugin are the cause of the problem :Logic has processing in one thread (channel to out) assigned to one processor and the other cores are "lazy on their but.." Solution suggested by the forum: Allocate 4 external Vienna Ensemble instances and insert these in logic allocated to different "Aux" channels I activated IAC and created 4 IAC busses but now I get stuck similar to "Ackerdemiker" I cannot get MIDI and audio routing working... It would be great if Vienna Support could create a working template for Logic 8 with 4 Multi-instruments: Vienna Ensembles I II III and IV ( 1 for Woodwinds, 2 for Brass 3 for percussion/keys and 4 for Strings ) including sound sets for these four with appropriate MIDI routing and Audio returns. The sequences then could have 4 x 16 instruments (midi tracks) and hopefully my brand new 8Core MacPro will be able to handle it with evenly distributed CPU load. P.S. I found a template by Hetoreyn http://www,elvenmusic.com that works with 24 Vienna plugins ( single instruments) but that sometimes produces clicks too... I invested in MacPro and Vienna to get a stable reliable Orchestra mockup - Setup I hope to get it on the move soon.... Please... figure it out for me and many musicians that LOVE the sound of Vienna and HATE PC/IT problems. Regards

  • Dear Amarillo,

please note that unlike the PC versions (for XP and Vista 64), the Vienna Instruments and Vienna Ensemble Software for Mac OS X is still 32 bit only. This means that each application can access a max. of 4GB of RAM (2 ^ 32 = 4 294 967 296 bytes = > 4GB) minus approx. 1 GB for libraries and frameworks. To our experience VI (= all plug-in´s together) can load a maximum of 2.8 GB of samples. When this limit is exceeded the application will crash easily – you can check this in your <Activity monitor> application and choose the process Vienna Ensemble Server to get an overview over your RAM usage. (You can run Vienna Ensemble and Vienna Instruments together to be able to address more RAM).

A 64 bit version for Mac OS X is currently in development.

  • Hi,

I´d like to add: As soon as you enable multiple outputs for any virtual instrument, Logic will only work with 1 core. This is a bug in Logic, that Apple knows about. Unfortunately this has not been fixed yet.

As soon as you use your Vienna Ensemble with "just" 1 Stereo Output, the workload will be distributed to the different cores.

    Best,

    Paul

  • So how do I open several instances of Vienna Ensemble with Logic 8, each in their own address space?

    Thanks

Isn't this fixed in Logic 9?  I thought I'd read somewhere it was.

    TIA

  • Hi guys, Short because I am in holidays and writing on my iPhone... The answers aren't completely correct! Yes you can Open multiple instances, but: only with the RAM of One!!! Means that you cannot use more than 2,5 gb of RAM for the instances! It's NO Bug in Logic...!!! It depends in the RAM-issue of the 32bit in OS-X...!!!  It will work with Snow Leopard...! Promise! Best regards... Bernd

  • I saved one of the ensemble instances in Logic Pro 8 as something called a VI FRAME.  However, I have no clue how to load a VI FRAME back into Logic 8.  Developer team, what is this VI FRAME thing and how do you load it back?

    Thanks.

    Gavin

  • Hi Gavin

Instantiate a multi VE in Logic. When the main VE window appears go to the menu bar and select "File". You get acces to your saved VEs there. HTH
