  • How can I make the timpani sound more soft?

    Hello,

I am looking for help and suggestions.

Has anybody ideas, how to make the VI SE's timpani sound more soft - like it was played with 1.) medium and with 2.) wool-wound mallets?

    Thank you,

    Sebastian

  • I think you don't have soft mallets, so EQ could be a solution. Maybe with some reverb to add a depth in your mix.

    Best regards

  • In a large mix you could just really narrow its stereo width and add more reverb to the timpani than other instruments, or if you have a 'puncher' like the free one that comes with Cubase you can set it to a negative value.

  • You can also messing with the filter setting in the VI player. Secondly different reverbs, and halls can yeild VERY different results. So if you have something like AltiVerb with many different rooms, then try lots of different ones. You will find that this can change the sound quite dramatically and some rooms will sampen the sound, making it "softer".
