  • Should I purchase the Vienna Suite or wait for the MIR

I have read a few threads about the MIR and am wondering if the vienna suite is going to become obsolete when the MIR is released. I currently have a few other Reverb plugins (waves and oxford) and am contemplating purchasing the vienna suite because of the custom presets. But then I saw the MIR information and think that with the other plugins that i already have waiting would probably be the better option. Any ideas of cost??

  • Welcome Dmorey,

It seems to be a common misunderstanding that Vienna MIR will be some kind of glorified Vienna Suite.

The Vienna Suite plugins will work with or without MIR. Likewise, MIR is not dependent on the VS-plugins (although it can host them, of course). Both product-lines are meant to complement each other. VS won't become obsolete when MIR is released. MIR is not "the reverb plugin" of the Vienna Suite - it's a stand-alone mixing and reverberation engine (and host) for our Vienna Instruments.

  • Dietz,

Thank you for the clarification. I will wait for the release and then make a decision.

Hmm, does "host" mean I will have to choose wether to use MIR or -say - Logic as a host? Or will we be able to still use Logic (or whatever) an plug MIR in? And if so, can we use non-VSL-instruments with the MIR-reverb?

  • For a better understanding look at the Vienna MIR as a mixing console with quite a few added options and possibilities. We will release a more detailed list of these features, as well as the technical requirements, in the near future.

  • NAMM, baby!841

  • Loaded question: With MIR, would one need a host such as Cubase?

  • You wouldn't need Cubase as a host, but as a MIDI-sequencer.

  • I don't think there is ANYTHING more critical on my 'to buy' list than MIR.   Thanks Dietz for keeping us updated as much as it makes good business sense to do do.

    All the best,

    Rob

  • To what extent would having both VE Pro and Vienna Suite obviate having MIR?

Nothing obviates having MIR. However, you can make plenty of good music without it.

Just remember that MIR will take a monster of a PC to run. Factor this into the cost as well.

  • I wouldn't say "Monster PC", but of course it will have to be a recent model.

Yes, I see what it is by comparison now. I hadn't seen all of this info, it's a superduper convolution postproduction station. What's still not clear to me is running it off a slave network, as I saw a post, 'a closed system'. I am currently looking at a monster configuration. At the current time, I can't use it as it's not ported to OSX.

The more recent tests tell me it's a pretty greedy animal.
