  • Automation with Vienna Suite?

     Hi!

I got Vienna Suite and I am using it with Cuabse SX 3.

Maybe something wrong with me but the usual read /write  procedure for automation does not seem to be recorded.(no automation)

Another question would be: What is the behind the resonance menus?

Are those frequencies part of the overtone row of the instruments or are they like formants that have a spectrum independant from the played pitches?  I noticed some kind of roughness is smoothed out but a violin has a range of 4 oktaves...

  • Thanks for your interest!

I can't recreate the automation problem here - please give us some details about your system (basic hardware info, OS, detailed version-numbers of both the host and Vienna Suite).

The idea behind the resonance menues is simple: I watched myself mixing music realized on behalf of our samples; I discussed with other people who are doing the same; I tried to find typical patterns for each instrument where we tried to integrate its sound better into a dense mix by getting rid of some strong, resonating (or otherwise too obvious) sonic aspects.

The result from this research are the so called "Resonance Menus". They are nothing else than my personal selection of those frequencies of an instrument which _could_ be too strong for a bigger arrangement. They are neither supposed to be used all together, nor are the amounts of gain reduction and Q necessarily what _your_ mix needs. Ideally, what you get from these Presets is some kind of hint where you _could_ start with some EQing (... which will of course vary from case to case, obviously).

The way I would use the "Menus" is to instatiate a VS EQ when you have the feeling that a certain instrument could benefit from some treatment, then enabling/disabling one EQ-band after the other, while listening carefully if you get closer to the desired effect (or not). After that, treat the settings according to your taste. :-)

  • Hello,

here too some problems for record the automation directly in cubase using the "w" (write button) and move silders from vsl plugin:

The movement are not recorded ! yes we can use the track of effect  in cubase and draw with the mouse/pencil movement or create point sand read it after in playback with the "R" (read automation) and we see the sliders of vsl moving but I can't record movement directly inside the vsl's plugin.

    best regards

  • Vienna Suite Software version 1029

    Cubase Sx 3 /4

    Xp 64

    Intel Quadcore 8 gig ram

The problem with no write automation was also there on my old computer AMD X2 3800

  • I can confirm this bug. Thanks for reporting.

What seems to happen is that the graphical user interface (GUI) doesn't send it's parameter-changes. As an intermediate workaround, you could open the plugins's generic interface (without the graphics) by clicking on its "e"-button in the mixer-channel, while holding Shift+Ctrl at the same time. Using Cubase's standard parameter controllers you can write changes on the fly.

The other way to handle automation is to draw the changes directly into Cubase's automation-lanes by hand.

Of course, we will try to fix this ASAP. Thanks for your patience.

  • Automation gesture handling for all platforms was introduced with v1.0.1039.

  •  Automation works perfectly now!

    Thanks for the fix!
