A good and useful review, but do bear in mind that comparing to Waves is apples and oranges, since coloured EQ's have a different purpose from transparent EQ's.
I personally rarely have a use for the former category, except for occasional use of Pultec-style EQ's when doing rock guitar and the like. I can't think of any reason to use an API or SSL style EQ on classical/orchestral instruments, but maybe in the context of cinema work or background for pop recordings.
I have't had enough time with Vienna Suite yet to see if it can be pushed into coloured territory, as can MOTU's MasterWorks EQ and Sonnox EQ when using Types III or IV (which emulate API and SSL somewhat).
I did notice, however, that the multi-band plug-ins in Vienna Suite seem quite capable of either staying neutral or pushing a mix into extreme sonic manipulation categories. So much so, that I may even consider this suite for mastering work and not just tracking and mixing.
