  • Symphonic Cube question

    Dear VSL staff.
I really imperesed quality of your samples and customer support. I was waiting to GS3 announcement to decide to buy new sample libraries. As I understand, Symphonic Cube will be VSL’s flag ship library because of 24bit and lots of sample alternatives. However, I don’t have any idea about which sample libraries will be inculuded in Symphonic Cube (SC).
As I can see, you’re going to announce SC with 1 harddrive. This brings me lots of questions.
GS3 Orchestra has unlimited polyphony. Pholyphony is limited with CPU+Ram and HDD speed. So lots of people will want to use hultiple HDD or Raid function to get highest band with. Also HDD’s are not capable to handle multiple big datas same time even with new technology. So, what is the point that VSL wants to announce SC with 1 HDD?
Also lots of quite new motherboard chipset not capable to recognise bigger than 200GB HDD.
Accually some limitations could be solved with bios upgrade. I don’t know if there is a any capacity limmitations on Firewire 400 (theorically 50MB/s) or USB 2.0 (theorically 60MB/s). Even not, new problem will be bandwith limitations. Of course, some external HDD such as LaCie’s 1TB ( http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?id=10118 ) (Firewire 400, 800, iLink, Usb1.1, 2.0 ) using multiple HDD in it and possibly because of new Firewire800, they’ll give high bandwith, but it’ll be fortune for us with possible firewire 800 card.
Sorry, but I’m just curious about that and just wanted to make plan for puture.
BTW, I wish I could buy GS3 and SC as a bundle [:)]
    All the best.

  • koray, some time ago herb has been publically considering to release the symphonic cube as *built by order*, which would absolutely make sense regarding the varying demands to instruments, resolution and formats.
to have the SC listed as 1 harddisk might be confusing, but also the 1 TB LaCie inside is not a single disk but 4 on a raid controller. the most promising method to connect such a beast to a computer sems to me serial ATA or SCSI (160 MB/s), possibly FW800 or NAS (network attached storage, usually gigabit ethernet or fiber) - this will depend on tests and trends for hardware of course

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Why not keep the DVD solution?

I know the price hasent been detrmined.. but where about are we? Double of Pro ed, or ?

  • Also.. why is SC both 16 and 24 bit?
