  • Volume automation in VE/Logic 8

I'm succefully using VE with a midi multiinstrument object in logic controlling the various tracks in the VE instance. I can edit performance automation data just fine on each seperate track. But the volume automation seems to only affect the actual instance of the VE, in other words adjusting the overall volume of all instruments. Isn't there a way to make VE recognize seperate volume automation on it's seperate instruments?

  •  Hi Carl,

Sadly this is a limitaion of Logic since Logic 5 (I think).

Because you have to set the used Instrument object to "All" channels, all incoming control change 7 (volume) data affect just the instrument object itself and are not passed to the single instances of VE.

It is more or less easy to overcome this by assigning a different controller to the volume slider in the single VI´s (eg. CC3) and then use this controller to automate the volume.

You can also set up a transformer environment object which transformes the CC 7 into another controller (again eg. CC3) and then you can even use CC7 as the controller for the automation, because all CC7 data will be transformed into the selected contoller after the channel automation.

  • Thanks!

I'll go with the transform method.

At least I don't have to wonder if it was me or the machines...
