  • True Legato + extra release for free!

Vienna, we have a problem... When I load a legato patch, I can record a melody (in Logic 8.01) and the lst note of the melody beautifully fades away after some sustain time. BUT, when it receives the actual note-off message a very short release sample is still played. Of course this disappears when I click off the play release button, but I need this release between the notes to get this true legato. Most Ironic: it only happens during playback of the recorded instruments. When I play live there's nothing wrong. Has anybody else had this annoying problem? Please help...

Release samples don't play between notes, so setting the release to "off" will have no effect on the legato.

  • A release sample is designed to be triggered when a sample is still sounding and you let up on the key (note off.) Therefore if you hold down a key longer than the length of the actual sample, the sample dies away but when you let go of the key the release sample triggers and so you hear it. Performance legato instruments do not sustain as long as the sustain patches so if you need longer notes try those with the release samples. Otherwise make sure you release the key before the sample ends or you will have silence and then boom - the RS. Obviously the music should dictate the length of any given note so use sustains for longer notes when needed. Or you could put sustain samples in the second cell and cross fade to that patch before the legato sample ends. This way you can still have a true legato into the longer note.
