  • Solo Strings sustain patch Alternation in VSL SE Std.

Good evening everybody and happy easter.[G]

I just noticed, that the Solo Strings sustain patches in VSL SE Std. have Alternations. While that's a nice thing, I wonder a little bit about its behaviour. Instead of just toggling between the two differing samples like for example staccato and detache patches do, the second sample only triggers, if it's played directly after the same note.

So for example I load the "03S VI sustain" patch. Then I play C6 and if I hit C6 again directly after the previous note ends, it triggers the alternation sample (I call it "Sample B" now). By doing that a few times in a row I always only get the B Sample, instead of A/B/A/B/A/B...

And if I have a longer gap between two notes I always get "Sample A". Other notes have no influence on that.

I know, a sustain patch is not exactly for repetative phrases, but sometimes it can be used for such stuff anyway. And with alternating samples it only gets better ...

So, is this a bug in those patches, or is there actually a sense to use this kind of behaviour ?

  • Any word on this ?

  • *Bump*

  • *knock knock*

  • Why am I ignored here? I think the question is clear and easy to answer.

  • Ist irgendetwas an der Frage unklar ?!?

  • Ich finde es so langsam wirklich UNFASSBAR DREIST, daß ich hier keine Antwort bekomme!

  • Hallo und einen schönen Samstag Abend auch [:)]

Finally there is some time to go through the forum, which is an open forum for everybody who wants to participate. We are currently in a very busy testing frenzy with the arrival of the new VE 3, please accept my apology for not getting back to you earlier.

You can always use the option to contact us directly at support@vsl.co.at, as you have done before, if I remember correctly. We are doing our very best to answer each mail within at least 24 hours, especially with specific questions like this one.

The sustain patches trigger a repetition sample (just as a repeated note in each Performance Legato patch), which means that you are triggering a recorded repeated note - the attack is much different from the usual sustain. A/B.

If you repeat the note agai, you get the same repetition sample, A/B/B, and so on.

You get a great collection of different performance repetitions with our "big" VI collections. And of course now there´s the great option to get the Special Edition PLUS, which gives you staccato and legato performance repetitions for all the instruments included in the Special Edition [:)]

Once again, we´re sorry that your thread slipped through.

    Best,

    Paul

  • Thx for your reply.

So if I understand you right, you say, that those notes wouldn't really make sense (aka sound right) if they'd be played like normal roundrobin samples.

    PS.:

Ich bitte um entschuldigung, daß ich in mich so aufgeregt habe, aber man kommt sich als User halt ziemlich blöd vor, wenn man fast eine Woche lang ignoriert wird.

  • Hi,

the faster the same note is repeated (the less time between the attacks), the more your ear will notice a machine gun effect.

That is the reason for the Performance Repetitions - you would like the options in the Special Edition PLUS - it might be interesting to check out the download products of the Special Edition PLUS, if you need these specific repetitions, e.g., only for the strings....

Then again, you get spoiled fast and you will want the Special Edition PLUS Full Library very soon... and the DVD products are a little bit cheaper after all.

    Best,

    Paul
