  • Bassoon Sample Issue

I seem to have a problem with an "Extended Bassoon" sample:  "BA_dyn-me_Vib_5s" (L2) when the key-switch is switch to "crescendo".  It doesn't, instead it sounds flat and loud for 5 seconds, as if the sample had been seriously over-compressed.  Every other dynamic sample seems to work fine and the diminuendo seems OK too.

Am I missing a patch? Does it work for everyone else?

Doesn't work here either, but I'm not sure that I've applied all the updates. I'd check that first.

  • Hi Alexander. What I found with this patch is that the diminuendo works OK but the crescendo option is non-existent. (Possibly because VSL programmed the A-B keyswitch incorrectly, or overlooked it?)

  • None of our samples are compressed.

I remember that it was very difficult for our bassoon player to perform long dynamic samples with vibrato on certain keys.

That's why a few samples do have a very small dynamic range.

All the 6s-Str crescendo samples work, and yet I can't find any of  the 5s-me crescendo samples that work. I certainly have massive sympathy for the Bassoon player, and I agree these are difficult to play (I have tried).  But it just seems odd that a whole "set" of samples have no real dynamic range when longer and shorter samples are fine.

Obviously it is not that vital, it's just that I found a place in my music where this sample would have been so perfect, and I immediately assumed I either had a corruption or was missing a software patch.

    Thanks for the response though!

  • If you listen to the 'strong' version of the 5-second crescendos (BA_dyn-str_Vib-5s) you'll hear that the bassoon player had no problem starting quietly and executing a very obvious crescendo. But in the medium version (BA_dyn-str_Vib-5s) there are no crescendos at all, only diminuendos. Pressing the A/B keyswitch has no effect.

    So either:

    1. VSL forgot to record the crescendos for this patch.

    2. The crescendos were recorded but the programmer forgot to include them.

    3. The A/B keyswitch isn't working.

Since forgetting to do things is something VSL aren't very good at, my money's on 3.[;)]
