I've been composing a chamber work that has two horns in the ensemble. In rendering a performance with VI (through Cubase4), I keep coming upon phasing issues in the few places in the piece where the horns play in unison.
So far, my method to avoid this has been to use different samples in the 2nd part to avoid the clash. However this is imperfect for two reasons: (i) it makes the ensemble sound considerably more amateur than I would like, and (ii) different patches don't seem to always mean that different samples are played (as far as I can tell), since I seem to get issues with a sustain patch played against a perf-legato patch.
The only other method I can see is to use the "3-horn ensemble" samples on the unison patches, and whilst this works brilliantly in the orchestral situation, it sticks out like a sore thumb in a chamber piece.
Do any fellow posters have any "tips & tricks" on how to minimise phasing where using multiple identical instruments? Any help much appreciated!
