Compositions for Large Ensemble and Drums

Hey, Sorry I can't help you with your ensemble Watts, but I really enjoyed listening to both yours and JBM's tracks. I'm considering getting VSL Special Edition and I was wondering which versions of VSL each of you used. It's been difficult for me to judge the sounds based on the samples of alot of the other composers pieces. I tend to prefer the more dry, slightly grittier approach, with more attack as oppossed to the lush heavy reverbed, almost overly pretty sounds that seem to be the norm with more classical styles. Hey Noah,

My samples are a mix of VSL Horizon stuff and VSL Vienna Instruments:

1) All Mallets and percussion - Horizon Mallets and/or Horizon Opus
2) All large ensemble strings - Horizon Opus
3) Solo strings, Chamber strings - Vienna Instruments Solo and Chamber Strings - Extended
4) Winds - Vienna Instrument Winds I & II - Standard
5) Brass - Vienna Instruments Brass I - Extended

Drum Kits are BFD, with some stuff from Ultrabeat in Logic.

All VSL libraries are totally dry - virtually no natural reverb, and no artificial reverb, so you'll be happy with VSL in that regard.

My reverbs on the mr. wheet stuff are all Altiverb. I tried to keep it all fairly tight sounding... hope it wasn't too gooey. That's certainly not what I'm after... I tried to put just enough to smooth out the samples, and get the individual notes to blend nicely.

95% of this was done with 

Vienna Instruments -

Special Edition

Saxophones

Solo Strings

Upright Bass.

Some of it was done with Opus 1 and 2 (when I needed the flattered flute for example.)

The bongos came with Kontakt I think...and the drums came from my arms and legs!

Cool. I really appreciate the info. I think I'm gonna start out by getting the special edition. Too bad they don't sell your arms and legs as well...
