  • I can't open my VE setup anymore

hi, I have 2 problems. i'm using a dual 2 Ghz PowerPC G5 The first one is that i can not open VE as a plug in logic 7.2.3. When i try to do it, the white window "VE service" shows up, and after 2 minutes, another window appears : Vienna Ensemble Server Interface, blue, and it's written " Vienna Ensemble SErvice is not Available". So, i cannot use VE. Then i just bought a new Mac pro 2X2,8 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon. So, i'm running Logic with the old computer, and VE with the new one. Because VE server is not working, i'm using midioverlan to synchronise booth computers. It worked fine until i decide to save my setup of VE. Then, when i load it again, nothing works anymore. VE seems to crash. I can't play on the keyboard, there is no sound at all. If i quit VE, and launch it again, it won't work. I have to restart my computer.

  • does anyone can help me because it's been a month i bought VI, and nothing works fine... I don't want to use my Vitous Strings anymore!!! thanks, Nicolas

  • Just a thought-- try uninstalling everything related to VE (keep your samples on your hard drive, however). Then download and install the latest versions of VE, the VSL installer, and update your Syncrosoft License Control Center software. After that, make sure you set up BOTH the VE Directory Manager as well as the VSL Directory Manager. Repair permissions and reboot the computer. If that doesn't do it, this will require the help of someone on the VSL team. From reading various posts and experiencing occasional problems myself, I get the feeling that the Mac version of VE is still "young", but it's getting better.

  • thanks for your advices, actually a very nice guy working for VSL is trying to help me. But he said that i might be the only one with this problem!! I just uninstall VE 2869 And put back the older one.

  • even with the VE 2779, there is a bug. After i open 4 or 5 VI then it crashes

  • How much RAM do you have installed?

  • 14 Go 800 Mhz DDR 2 FB-DIMM

  • Hi Nicolas,

the VE allows you to load a maximum of around 2.5 GB of RAM. If you are loading BIG presets it is very likely that you overload your VE.

What happens if you open some VI´s and fill it with some smaller patches or presets?

  • hi paul, Thanks! That was the Problem!!! i was loading too Big presets! then, what do you think about my first problem? Thanks again Paul Nicolas

  • Hi Nicolas,

your first problem is probably a setup problem. Please write an email with an exact decription of your G5 (OS, audio device, which software are you using, when was the last time you repaired permission and so on...) to support@vsl.co.at, so that my colleagues can look into it.

If somebody has a good idea in this case, please feel free to post [:)]

    Best,

  • i'm pretty sure it is a setup problem also. I've been in contact with Maya, and she knows my OS, software etc etc.... I'm now in contact with Christian, and he promessed that he will ask the programmers if they have any solution.... anyway, if nothing is found next week, i will format my hard drive and make everything new!! because i did repaired premissions, all that king of thing, there is always the same problem "VE service is not available"! When i validate the AU under logic, it says "unable to create a server object. the server application might be running, or the requested network port is not available". I send these informations already to Maya and Christian. Maya also told me to unistall, if i had some, all my (illegal) software like limewire. but i don't have this kind of program on this computer. So, I don't know. I'm sure somebody has the answer!! thanks
