  • Sustained Harpsichord

I just tried out the special keyboards library I recieved a few weeks ago,

fantastic samples, especially the prepared piano is very inspiring.

I just wanted to ask why the harpsichord responses to the sustain pedal, as far as I know there is no pedal on a harpsichord, on the other side there has to be one, because the library contains sustained harpsichord samples.

I am a bit confused, anyway, a sustained harpsichord sounds very good even if I didn't know that it exists.

    Harmonium percussion is also exceptional!

    thanks!

  • Hi Christof. You're right, a harpsichord has no sustained pedal. The sustains you hear are normal long notes, but for players' convenience VSL have made them go on sustaining when you press the pedal. Another example of a sampled instrument having more facilities than the real thing!

  • It plucks. It's a plucking instrument. It uses quills to pluck with. Plucking thing.

If they could have made it sustain 300 years ago - they would have loved it.
