Hello,
I'm using Logic 8 with a dual 2.3 PPC with 12GB of RAM. I've managed to load in and work with a fairly large orchestra (mostly Symphonic Cube patches, but also some EXS24 & Kontack ) 29 - 32 parts. For the most part all goes well, I suppose because I've got lots of RAM. However I sometimes get in trouble when I try to "show window" for a VSL instrument. It appears to hang the program up, but after a while there's nothing to do but force quit. Furthermore when I try to open the same (or any other) file it loads all the patches - which takes anywhere from 5 to 7 minutes when I'm using a decent-sized orchestra - and then just as the long wait appears to be over the program either hangs again or closes down. The only solution at this point is to restart the computer. Usually I'm able to get back to work after the restart. However, accessing the VSL windows always seems to be an adventure. Will I crash or will the window come up? I never know!
I sometimes run the VSL Directory Manager before starting Logic (when I remember to do it) but it doesn't seem to make any difference one way or the other in the matter of the "window crashes."
Could it be that I'm asking too much of the computer? This only seems to happen when I'm using 28 - 34 parts. I thought getting the extra RAM would solve any of these issues but maybe not.
Any help would be appreciated!
Frank
