  • Vienna Ensemble/Save project with subset of samples?

Hello, I'm wondering if it's possible to somehow "save as" a VE project, but also include just the subset of samples used in the project? I'm trying to figure out how work on a project on the road for a few days on the laptop without having to drag along the big external eSATA drive that has the full VI SE sample library on it. Any way to pull out just what I need on to the laptop drive (in this case, just solo strings...). Thanks, Jason

  • Hi Jason,

you can copy the content of your Solo Strings to your laptop (hope you have a fast internal drive, 7200 rpm), install the latest Syncrosoft LCC and the latest VI software - and then all you need is your ViennaKey additionally.

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Paul, thanks for the reply. I'm running VI Special Edition, so I don't have any idea how to pull just the Solo Strings out of the various SpecialEditionNNN.dat files. Are the Solo Strings contained within a particular .dat file (or several) and can I just copy those to the laptop? Thanks, Jason

  • Thanks, Christian. So, I'm out of luck unless I figure out the answer to the .dat question above? Jason

  • Hi Jason,

I have never tried that... I don´t believe that will work, but you can give it a shot.

We always advise to keep the content of one collection in one folder, because it is scrambled data.

  • Paul, any idea how I can locate the .dat files that contain just the Solo Strings? Thanks, Jason

  • Trial and error, I think.

  • If anyone else is trying the same thing, an hour of trial and error moving and re-running Directory Manager amounted to nothing. Can't get anything to work unless all .dat files are in the same place. If someone comes up with a solution, I'd love to know how to take a subset of the Special Edition on the road. • Hi Jason, the question is three years old, but maybe you´re still interested in a possible answer...
I was facing the same issue, but for another reason: I bought an 120 GB SSD and I didn´t want to use half of it only for VSL SE. So using the microsoft software "procmon" I checked which .dat files where used when I loaded a certain instrument of VSL SE. The following list is the result. the numbers are those of the .dat files that are needed.
For me it worked to move those files to the ssd and leave the rest on the original hard disk. I added the the folders in the directory manager and did a rescan. Everything works BUT the orchestral strings. don´t ask me why, but the orch cello doesnt want to load, actually the player even freezes. however the other instruments work and overall I am happy with the solution.
Anyway, I won´t garantee this is going to work on your system. And the information might be not 100% accurate - I am just a user...
    regards, Steven
