Switching articulations later on
Im new to these forums but I just wanted to say hello to everyone and ask a question about live performances with vienna. I have VSL special edition and I want to play a piece and use the crossfades for realism for almost every note of my long sustain violins but during my performance I need to quickly switch to portamento using the mod wheel. Since I am already using two hands and I dont want to stop doing crossfades because I need them at the key moment I switch to portamento I feel like I have a bit of a problem here. I use logic and I am used to automating in the sequencer but as I understand I must do the crossfade articulations in Vienna live-as I play... Is this correct or can I simply go in logic and draw it in or do it later if I have to? Thanks, Bob

I think your question is, how to be able to use the mod wheel for portamento switch and - at the same time automate vel crossfades in logic?! Next time you should ask that in the VI thread, because it has not much to do with mixing.
The great thing about VI is, you can define any controler for any operation. I would buy an additional midi controler, in oder to have more manual control. There are really cheap ones. If you don't want to do that you can still define expression vel crossfade and automate that in logic.
You might also build a switch in the enviroment in logic, to change the mod wheel of your keyboard between CC01 (modulation) and CC10 (expression). The enviroment is actually a cool tool for many situations of that kind. Of course it's not a "brain-to-midi-tool", though.
:o)

Thanks very much for the replies, I understand how to achieve this now and I really love the effect! Sincerely, Bob Graham

Hello everyone, I am a very new user of VI, and thanks for raising this question, bob. I have already put a very similar question to tech support at VI. I am trying to automate the articulations I am making manually in the patch matrix, so I can playback multiple tracks, but haven't figured out how to do this in Logic 8. It certainly was done in the demo videos posted on the VSL website, so it must be possible. Someone in this thread suggested linking the track automation function to the modulation wheel. Is this the most straightforward way of handling the task? If so, can someone point me in the direction of how to do this?
