  • A Way to Attenuate Individual Patches in VI?

I'm either simply requesting a new feature for VI in the future or if someone can simply tell me a better way to do this now that would be even better.

I know VSL has done a great job of matching loudness levels between different patches especially of the same instrument.  But in certain situations I find myself having to use a lot of cc data to adjust the levels of patches.  In particular, when I'm using the velocity x-fade to control the volume and I'm putting down  violin lines that keep crossing back and forth between legato performance patches and regular staccato. I notice the staccato patches are louder and I have to keep constantly adjusting for it.  Look at this screen shot (it's Pro Tools)and you'll get the idea. The saw-tooth looking thing is my velocity x-fade data. It's not too bad.  I've learned to do it quickly.  But if I could just adjust the patches I wouldn't have to do this.  Any ideas?

  • First port of call, why don't you change the volume settings on the staccato patches?

  • Yes - select the staccato patch, hit 'edit cell' and pull back the volume till it matches the level of the legatos. Then save the matrix with a new name.

  • OK. Thanks for responding, both of you.  I was afraid I was missing something.  Somehow the whole "cell edit" thing eluded me.  I feel a little stupid but I'm glad I asked.

  • Hey Mahag - not stupid at all. The VI is quite a complex instrument and it's easy to miss things. I'm glad folks ask such questions here because they help me understand the workings of the player too!
