  • Plug-in Failed to open message in Logic

Help... I'm trying to get a string cue done and to the mix engineer by tomorrow morning, and when I try to open the Vienna Instrument in Logic, I get this message "Failed to load audio unit. please contact the manufacturer for an updated version or for further assistance". Logic 8.01 OS 10.4.11 Is there an update available. I didn't see one. What's causing this...? Help!!! And to add insult to injury, I tried rescanning the Vienna Instrument with Logic's AU validator, it's says an error has occurred, and now it is no longer available from my AU instrument list from within Logic, even though it is checked in the AU manager.

  • You might try unchecking it from the AU validator window .. restarting and then try to let it find the plugin again. Failing that I'd say uninstall the VI software and reinstall. I've had this a few times myself when I've loaded on newer versions. Sometimes the AU system gets a bit weird. Takes less than a minute to uninstall and reinstall the VI soft.

  • run disk utility and verify/repair permissions on your system volume might also help

  • Thanks guys... I'm back up and running now. It took downloading the 1.14 update, and re-installing, as well as rescanning with the Directory Manager to get things back. I was able to use Ensemble to meet my deadline, so I wasn't completely shut out of my Vienna samples... Interestingly, when I downloaded the 1.14 update this morning, the Stuffit expander keep failing. That hasn't ever happened to me before. Not sure what was going on there. I right/clicked the update package, and in the "open with" window, saw an app called "BOMArchive Helper". I've didn't even know I had that, but it un-stuffed the update package with no problems. Still... any ideas what caused this? I do believe this was the first time I'd reached for my Vienna Instruments since updating the OS from 10.4.10 to 10.4.11, as well as Logic 8.0 to 8.01. Any other reports of this with either of those two updates?

  • the BOM archive helper is the built in packing / unpacking utility and works well with zip-files
