  • Special Edition and Encore - how do I get them to work together?

    Hi everyone,

my brother-in-law was given the Special Edition of Vienna Instruments for Christmas. He's a young musician who composes his own pieces now and again. Up to now, he's used the traditional method of composing - pen and paper.  He has virtually no computer experience whatsoever.

His mother gave him Vienna Instruments, thinking that he could simply enter his notes there and have the program play the piece so he can hear what it sounds like. Alas, it's not that easy.

We have now dug up an old version of Encore that my wife used to play around with. We're hoping that there's a way we can integrate VI and Encore, so that he can use Encore to enter his notes and then have Vienna Instruments play the piece.

Now here's the big question - is there a way to do this? And if so - how?  Or are there any alternatives that do not involve buying a new notation program for EUR 700?

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Just looked quickly over Encore at the GVOX site and it seems like it should be fine. If you download the Vienna Ensemble, you can use that to host the Special Edition instruments. You need a decent computer, though, with lots of RAM. The computer hardware is probably a bigger issue than the scoring program... I mean, you can use Special Edition with just about any midi sequencer, really. I'd say you want a decent P4, minimum, with 2GB RAM, but you should check the system requirements indicated on the box (or on this site).

welcome Jalapeno, mac or pc preferred?

i don't read anything about VST for encore, so you might need to have also virtual midi ports on a PC ...

you might want to check out capella - free demo available - which has VST

on a mac logic express might be worth to look at ...
