How does VI brass compare with Opus I brass?
I would be very interested to hear peoples opinions of the Vienna Instrument brass as I am still using Opus I and am considering upgrading. I don't find it easy to create convincing tonal curves with Opus I, does the new sample player aid this? Are the same samples used in the new instrument as in Opus I? I'd be very grateful for your general impressions....thankyou, mark.

All you got in Opus 1 will be there, butyou get the new sample player software which will aid you in terms of no need of Performance Tool anymor - just check a few of the introduction videos for the new things. Still it will be a lot more detailed if you get Ext. not only with new instruments not featured in Opus 1 (cimbasso, triple horn, contrabss trombone, ...) or only covered partly (those that extend the bass range like bass trombone) but also the Epic Horns, plus more layers for the existing instruments, more repetitions (instead of or in addtion to two alternate patches for short notes in Opus 1), the whole muted brass. You can find detailed info about what is contained in the articulation lists on the product pages as well as audio demos. So basically the timbre would stay the same, but you get a new can of worms in terms of choices and options.
Hope this helps,

Thank you Polar Bear and Paul. I guess my question was more about the implementation of filter modulation in the brass section, as I have trouble creating authentic tonal sweeps with Opus (using instruments from the Filter folders), maybe I'm doing something wrong. I feel that as I already have the Opus collection there would not be so much value in buying another cut down sample set like SE. I think I'll take the plunge and buy Brass II and begin to build the full library.
