Hi everyone. In my VSL SE I have legato patches and legato with sustain crossfading patches. Can anyone explain the difference, and maybe for what purpose are these patches made? Many Thanks.

Simple: When your melodic legato line's last note is to short, you have to crossfade to a sustained note to make it longer. Realize this: when you use a legato patch and just play one note you will hear it quite a long time befor it ends. This is because it actually is a sustained note. With every further note played legato you will notice, that it doesn't last as long. It has been done for economical reasons - to decrease the amount of data needed for the legato patches. On the other hand: In real world a string player can play only for a certain time, befor he has to change the bow direction. Good players have the ability to make the bow change sound legato, too. In the end with a sample library it's not only about realism, but about the desired sound. Fritz.
