  • New to VI: where do .fxp files go?

I'm SO sorry for posting this, but I've searched the manual & forums, watched all the videos, and thus far have come up empty handed.

I just purchased VSL VI Appassionata strings, and in an effort to learn what this library can do, downloaded Jays tutorial to "From Fantasia" which to me sounds absolutely AMAZING!! Thank you so much Jay for providing what is sure to be an amazing learning tool! This tutorial comes with a whole bunch of .fxp files, and I have no clue where to put them! I tried placing them in my "custom folders" in Directory manager, but this doesnt seem to be correct, as this seems to only house matrix files, and not .fxp files.

So, what are .fxp files and where do I put them so VI can read them? I'm on a Mac if that helps. BTW, if I'm just being stupid and this information already exists somewhere, PLEASE point it out. I really hate bringing up topics if they have already been covered somewhere else, however like I said, I searched the manual, forums, and videos and still dont know what to do with these .fxp files.

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • I think the .fxp files are just the saved file format that VSL are using on the VI's. So from the VI player you should be able to load previous settings from a .fxp file. ...... So if you save a particular instrument to your VI directory ... then it will have the .fxp extension. ..............To use them load up a VI instance and use the disk icon to load a preset .. select the .fxp file you want .. and if you have the instruments that it was saved from (IE Special Edition ... Appasionata strings etc.), then it should load the preset.

  • Thanks for your reply! I did manage to get one to load this time (it was available in my matrix list), but when I opened a 2nd instance of VI player and attempted to load another, the folder no longer opened and thus I lost access to the .fxp files. Also, I tried using the disk icon, but the only options it gives me is to "save my matrix" not load a .fxp. I must be doing something wrong. Help?

  • Right .. Sorry I got it wrong. The Icon seems to be to save a .matrix setting. If you use the load preset ... or save preset from the drop down menu in your finder (assuming you're on a mac) or top of the window (if you're on Windows) then you should be able to load and save the presets with .fxb

  • Although I have to admit to being stumped on how to open an .fxp file within the Vienna Ensemble host. There doesn't seem to be a load / save preset on the menu yet .. though I dare say this will appear in time.

  • Weird, I tried again using a different song and they appear to be loading fine with multiple instances. Very strange. I hope it fixed itself. :) Thanks again for your help hetoreyn!

  • fxp files are Vienna Instrument Preset files.

You can load and save Preset files on the "Preset Select Page"

The folder with your custom preset file has to be added in the Directory manager.

(same procedere as with the custom Matrix files)

    best
