    Right: I want the full SC, but can't nearly afford it, so I'm going to try to convince my college to get it. Is there any kind of discount I can offer them?

    rob, for this kind of question you should contact sales@vsl.co.at directly - basically educational discounts are not given on the first license of a symphonic cube but maybe other options (products) are available depending on individual conditions.
