Coreaudio error -1
Hello all, I just got the VSL SE and installed it without problem, however, I am trying to use it with Logic Pro 7 on an Mac Book Pro but every time I try to open the Vienna Instruments (which Logic sees perfectly), I get this message "Error code -1 was returned by the CoreAudio driver" and the Coreaudio quits I have 2 Gigs RAM but I'm not even able to load any instrument, it just quits. The audio interface is a Digirack 002. I am able to open the VI as a stand alone but it behaves strange, and the sample rate is very often wrong between the VI and the Digirack (it goes to 96 by itself) and even if I try to set it to 44.1, it doesn't respond. I tried all the buffer sizes possible as well. I downloaded the last version of everything (I installed it yesterday) and even downloaded the latest Coreaudio driver but made no difference. Anny idea what error -1 is? I would really appreciate any help.

welcome jjcolomer, this could be related to a driver issue ... i remember to have read the driver version for the digi has to correlate with your logic version (7.3 needs 7.3 or similar) ... always a good idea is to check permissions on your system volume with the disk utility.

Thanks Christian, That's how I had it before I downloaded the newer Coreaudio driver and didn't work either. In any case, I uninstalled the VI and installed it again and it seems to be working fine. However, now I get a lot of clicks and pops all over, even with the buffer size to 1024. And that's only playing single notes with nothing else, no fx, no other tracks... I'll work on this now but if you have any ideas it'd be really appreciated.

if it is a macbookPro which already has a PCe34 slot my recommendation would be to get an PCIe34-sATA expansion card and connect an external sATA drive ... this solution generally would release load from your bus because PCIe-sATA-harddrive is a much more direct connection than chipset- bus-firewire(out)-firewire(in)-harrdisk.
you could check out if it is related to firewire using alternatively a USB disk or your internal disk (though both is basically not really recommended) ... don't forget to re-assign data location in the directory manager then ...

I used to have that problem now and then. The issue turned out to be a problem with the firewire hub I was using. The thing that made it all work again? I unplugged the power from the hub then plugged it back in, and bingo -- no more problem. Although it's best to just dedicate 1 FW port to your audio interface, to avoid similar problems altogether. i'd like to take the opportunity to point generally to (rare) possible incompatibilities with firewire.
reasons are assumably different implementations of the firewire protocol and behaviour of controllers:
- we noticed on the first generation macPros with the maxtor oneTouch III loosing connection
- some versions of oxford devices (eg. icecube) do not always mount if connected to VIA controllers
- having expansion cards with different controllers installed might reduce throughput significantly
- some (no name) FW80 PCI expansion cards do not work correctly (applies more to PCs)
