  • Vienna Inst. and Logic 8

Hello, I've read about a few Logic 8 / Vienna Instrument problems. I have a G5 dual2.7 that was working well with Logic 7 and Vienna instruments. After upgrading to Logic 8, Vienna AU is validated and the Vienna plugin will open. My controller can visually trigger the Vienna keyboard, but presets will not load. The .dat files haven't been changed or moved. As well, Vienna no longer works in Logic 7 or standalone.

Before I reinstall, Can anyone confirm if this is a Logic 8 / Vienna bug. -Thanks, Robert

  •  I suspect that you don't need to reinstall. Try this: open the Vienna Instruments Directory Manager, select all the folders that are shown in that window and then press "rescan existing." Tell us if this works..

  • Yes! It worked. Thank you very much.

  • I have a similar problem which that doesn't fix. Having reset the directory manager, VSL SE runs fine in the standalone and shows all the presets, but in the plugin when opened in Logic 8 the presets have disappeared and it won't load samples. Any ideas?

  • Flashman, I'm having exactly the same problem. I noticed that the "build date" for VSL from *within* logic is 1.10, whereas when you run the standalone separatley, it is version 1.1.4 and does have all preset information. Have you found a solution?

  • So, I returned from the holidays to find that none of my VSL presets will load any more in Logic 8. When I open the stand alone, the presets all appear as normal. If I open up a Vienna AU plug in from within logic, the presets are all gone except for one custom preset that I created myself. (That custom preset also appears with the stand alone)

Is there any solution to this?

    Thanks in advance!

anything changed in the meantime (eg. any updates)?

please check permissions on your system volume usint the disk utility, check your custom data folder to be set properly (usually /users/shared/VSL Custom Data/ and has read & write permissions.

remove all locations from the directory manager and add them again using drag&drop from a finder

!! do all this after a reboot !!

in case you have both VI and VE - are both the latest version?

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • I wrestled with this for a few hours, and it  started working again. Not sure what the problem was. It appears that the Vienna install process left two distinct versions of itself on my machine. 1.14, which is what opens from the stand alone, and 1.10 which is what opens from within Logic. I rebooted several times, deleted my custom preset and rescanned my setup from both Vienna Directory Manager apps that were on my system.

Thanks anyway, I was in panic mode for a few hours there.
