Can anyone help. I am just about to buy a new Mac and run Logic studio with Kontakt as my sampler. I have the Symphonic Cube in Giga format which I was using on a PC. I need to know whether the samples will work in Kontakt on a Mac and whether I will still be able to use the Performance Tool. Any ideas much appreciated.

Using Giga samples in Kontakt on a Mac Pro

Hi Adam,
the Pro Edition was never converted to Kontakt, but you can get a side license for EXS24 (for 15% of the full price you will receive a new package).
I would call your distributor, Time&Space, directly, if that option is interesting for you.
We are still waiting for Apple to fix a bug of the Performance Tool in EXS with Logic 8, but you will be fine with Logic 7.
Another very attractive option is to get the Special Edition, "your price" is displayed when you are logged in [:)]

Within the Ptool you will have to choose the midi input channels. there you can assign all you like. The same with the output for MIDI. There you go directly to GVI port 1-4 or whatever. I must say - I never did that since I am working with VIENNA instruments. So no guarante wether it really works or not... Cheers, Matt

You could always convert your most-used libraries to iMIDI rules in the GS3 or GS4 Editor for use in GVI 4 on a Mac. I converted a solo legato cello to iMIDI rules pretty easily. I could post the steps necessary to do this if no one objects. (I remember that the performance tool was essentially the copy protection for the First & Pro Edition when they came out.)
This doesn't answer your question of course, as I don't believe Kontakt reads GS3 instruments and their iMIDI rule programming. It certainly doesn't have the DEF filter programming and some of the other cool tricks in GigaStudio 3 and 4.

Hi synthetic,
Wopuld be great if you could post details on how to do this. I am at the moment trying to actually find out when GVI4 is released in the UK. It's like getting blood out of a stone!

Didn't the VSL team release a standalone PT for the Mac (for Halion & Kontakt users)?
I know only the Horizon libs were for Kontakt and Halion but if the tool was also compatible with the Pro Ed perhaps they could just let us download it from our respective user areas. I was actually thinking of doing the same thing - using GVI 4 on the Mac with the parts of my Giga Pro Ed that I haven't yet replaced with VI's.
If a member of the VSL team read this could they comment on whether this is a viable option?

Martin

the stand-alone performance tool is available for all users with registered kontakt or HALion libraries (USER AREA - SAMPLE LIBRARIES - Tools) but for kontakt (both platforms) it is more or less outdated ... use the scripted kontakt 2 programs instead ...
basically this version also works for HALion on mac or in a way described above ... i personally would not be happy with the neccessary midi routing and there are no toolsets available for first and pro edition.
