  • Ensemble Feature Requests

First let me say that the new Vienna Ensemble already is making my workflow simpler, faster and more enjoyable.  But I thought I'd start begging for new features (greedy me).

    1) Drag and copy effects from one instrument to another.   Sonar 7 lets me do this, and it's a real time saver.

    2) Drag and copy power panning setting from one instrument to another.

    3) I would like to be able to see numerical values for power pan settings (stereo width and position).

    Best,

    Jay

  • 4) When rearranging busses and instruments by dragging them up or down beyond the currently visible side frame it would be nice if the side frame would automatically scroll up or down.   Also would be nice to be able to directly rearrange the vertical instrument strips by dragging them.

  • From the review I wrote in Film Music Weekly, I suggested these points:

    1. Larger font size

    2. On the condensed channel strip on the far left, add mute, solo, power panning so that all changes can be done in one location while keeping the Vienna Instrument opened.

  • VOLUME

I sequence on Logic and have VI on farm machines. I noticed that in Vienna Ensemble, that VE responds to volume data from Logic but the faders don't move, but on the Vienna Instrument, you do see the faders move.

    Any input on this?

  • The volume is being changed on individual cells instantiated within VE. However, if you are using VE as a multi-instrument within Logic, it is not advisable to use MIDI volume to affect output level changes since these will affect all instruments instantiated within a single instance of VE. So, if you have a flute dim. on one channel and an obe cres. on another and have used MIDI volume (CC7) to effect these dynamic changes, you will get a particularly unpleasant stuttering effect. Instead use MIDI CC11 (expression) to affect output level changes - - since CC 11 changes in each instantiated instrument of a single multi-instrument are independent of each other. This behavior with multi-instruments affects all such plugins in Logic (.eg. Kontakt, Kompakt et al.) - - not just VE - - and has been peculiar to Logic for a long time.

  • I did observe that. I just thought it was curious, since I'm not running VE on a Mac with Logic but separately, that while VE is receiving the volume change, the faders on VE aren't moving.

Is this unique to Logic or does it happen on other farm machines when the sequencing DAW is a PC.

  • As far as I know the VE volume faders do not respond to MIDI, but whatever patches you have instantiated in each channel of VE will respond. This seems to be due to the current feature set of VE and is, I think, not peculiar to Logic.
