  • Short melancholic theme

    Hey guys,

First of all, I must express how pleased I am with VSL Special Edition so far, it's more than I had hoped for. Truly amazing!

I composed this short theme yesterday, and I wanted a few opinions from people, I wanted to see if they thought that I was doing anything wrong: http://www.speedyshare.com/202182195.html

Well, I guess I should introduce myself, as not many people know me here. My name is Cody Darr, and I am 17 years old. Music has always been the one and only key to my heart, music is why I live my life. I've been playing the piano for almost 13 years now, and have been into digital audio workstations for nearly 5 years. Most of my DAW experience has been with electronic music, but my facination with the orchestra made me stray from my typical electronic works.

Anyway, long story short, I went through a few libraries and found VSL SE. I've had it for about 3 months, and it's been really amazing.

I will take any criticism with the best possible attitude. I thank you for your time and consideration.

  • Perhaps a different host for your mp3 file?

  • Thanks, hehe...

I cannot afford webspace, you know you still could have downloaded it? Just because it's got a "download" button and a few google ads doesn't mean it'll give you a virus... [;)]

  • I just mean your link initially produced a page full of links to porn videos ... for a moment I thought the spam bots had started writing and composing music! (give it another 5 years and they probably will!).................................... As for your music ... I could definitely have listened to more..... :)

  • I wish I had the VSL at the age of 17!
Nice orchestration and ambience,  but not really a 'theme' in my opinion, but I like the chord development.

This could be a good intro to  a melancholic tune.

    Keep on trying!

Very nice, sonicether. It does sound like an introduction to something else coming. Would you expand it? Nice movement in the dynamics tone.

  • Thanks for your feedback, very kind indeed.

Wow, porn site? Sorry about that, I have never had problems like that with speedyshare.

I did intend on this being a theme, as you can hear, the IV to V chord progression at the end was meant to lead into a main theme. It's really not a theme yet, but it's going there...

Yeah, hehe, I'm actually pretty poor, but I scraped up all of my money to get this. My computer is about 6 years old, with only 512 MB ram, so you can imagine how hard it is to get a decent ammount of instruments playing without dropouts or overloads. I am forced to use the 'sustain' patches instead of the legato ones. Then in the final mixdown I convert every sustain to legato and render everything seperately (that's the only way possible for a smooth render).

I will expand on this, thanks for the feedback!

  • hey, you might want to check this out:

    http://www.freehostia.com/

they offer 250 mb comletely free web space with  a domainname, with 5gb monthly bandwith.

You can use the http://www.joomla.com/ protocol to set up your site just like any other pro site, but it takes some work to get it good offcourse.

Dont ask me how it all hangs togehter, i did get some help with the setup etc, but it is absolutely free, and it works very well.!!!
