I have been able to successfully use VE as a plug-in within DP, but doesn't this negate the benefit of a standalone Vienna Ensemble? I admit to being confused about the best way to go about this. I had thought I'd be able to open up VE as a standalone application and then send midi info to it's track from within DP so that I could access my extra RAM externally.

  • Hi Doug,

the Vienna Ensemble does use it´s seperate RAM share as a seperate application when used as a plug-in [:)].

This way you can fill up RAM with DP (3GB) and add another 3 GB with the Vienna Instruments and an ADDITIONAL 2.5 GB with Vienna Ensemble.

    Best,

    Paul

    Hi,

To do this in DP go to studio>Interapplication MIDI and in the dialogue create a new output called Vienna. Now when you open VE externally, in the preferences under the midi tab select Vienna. Now when you create VI's within VE you select Vienna in your port drop down and then one of the midi channels. Back in DP you can create a midi channel with the output Vienna-1 for say midi channel one.

To get the audio back you need to install soundflower (free download) then in VE select soundflower as your audio output. In DP under hardware settings select soundflower and your audio interface. Then in DP create an Aux track and set its input to soundflower.

    Hope this helps!

  • Thanks everyone. I've got it working fine now, and just ordered another 8GB of RAM to bring my Mac Pro to 12GB. That should let me do some fun stuff! Doug LeBow

  • How in the world did you manage to get VE to read as a plug-in in DP5???? PLease share your info if you could because I would like to use VE in DP as a plug-in if possible. Thanks! :)

  • Hi: Very simply: Instead of creating an Instrument track using a single Vienna Instrument, I choose Vienna Ensemble from the Instrument Track list. That boots the Vienna Ensemble software and places a VE Virtual Instrument in my track.

  • But VE does not show up in my track list....weird because I could swear before 5.13 it did! Is there some way of managing 3rd party plug-ins in DP like you can in Logic and Cubase? Perhaps I inadvertently turned it off....

  • You need to go into Project > Add Track > Instrument Track > Vienna Ensemble If it's not there, then check and make sure that the AU plugin is present at: root/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/ViennaEnsemble.component If it's not there then you have to re-install it. If it IS there and not showing up in DP, then I suggest you re-install it anyway. If you wish you can contact me directly at (661) 297-1001 or "doug@lebowmusic.com" or send me your contact info best, Doug
