  • Vienna Ensemble and Sibelius 5.1 it just ain't working!

    At least not for me.

I did initially manage to downlaod and install VE as a VST and I managed to open it at least once. But now everytime I try and open VE either within Sibelius or standalone it immediately freezes and I have to close both the VE and Sibelius in task manager.

I have a recent Asus motherboard a Core 2 Duo and plenty of good ram. My sound card is M-Audio Audiophile 2496 and my video card is an NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS.

What is the current state of play ofr others using Vienna Ensemble with Sibelius?

  •  Hi Dave,

Maybe it's of no help, but there appear to be a lot of issues with the 5.1 update of Sibelius. Even my Sibelius dealer has gone back

to 5.0, saying the update was released prematurely from his point of view. As for myself, I can't even install it.

Have you tried if VE works with 5.0?

    Cheers,

    Alex

  • I have not been able to get Sibelius 5.1 and VE to work together on my Mac Pro. Both programs freeze.

I do not have any trouble with VE standalone instances when running them via midi (with Sibelius on another machine)

I do not have any trouble getting Sibelius to work on the mac pro as long as the VE vst files are not in the plugin folder.

It is a little frustrating with such a powerful mac not to be able to get Sibelius and VE running at the same time.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • I have had no trouble with VE and SIbelius 5.1 on a 2.8GHz iMac with 4GB memory.  I have only done a few small quick tests but everything worked as expected.  I haven't had time to do anything more extensive that this. I used the Audio Unit version of VE.   Did you use this or the VST version?

Also, I don't know what the issue is mentioned above with Sibelius 5.1 vs. 5.0 but to me 5.1 works far better than 5.0.

  •  Hi Andi and David,

I seemed to solve the problem by taking the Vienna Instruments vst and 'component' (whatever that is) out of the plugin folder leaving the Vienna Ensemble vst and component in place. I haven't had time to pursue this beyond one midi channel but initial tests looked promising.

  •  Hello folks.

I just Got Vienna ensemble and the special edition sounds. When I try to create the manual Sound Set within Sibelius everything seems to go fine... but when I save the new Config file, and reopen it, I find that most of the information was not saved... only two of the 16 channels I filled in the manual sound set are filled when I reopen...

    Any body help?

    Jeff

  • Have you set the number of channels to 16 using the soundset editor?

  • Hello Jeff!

I guess you are using the Soundest that comes with Sibelius 5.1.
At the following URL you can download the Sound Set for the Vienna Ensemble: http://www.sibelius.com/helpcenter/resources/soundsets.html
Also see the notes located on the same page. They give good advices to how set everything up.

By using this Sound Set your problem should be gone.
