  • VE Causing Troubles on Mac 10.4

I just installed ensemble on my macbook pro, and when I try to start up logic pro 7.2.3, I get a message saying "Logic Pro has detected a possible conflict between one or more third party midi or audio drivers. Be sure to install the latest drivers for all audio and midi equipment connected to your computer, and remove any older or unused drivers." Also, a Syncrosoft Liscense Control Error pops up saying that application special edition caused an error. What is interesting is that sometimes if I force quit Logic and restart it, I will get none of the error messages, but I have not yet been able to open either VI or VE inside of Logic once Logic has opened, because Logic will freeze up when I do. I am probably not providing enough information, so ask whatever you need to. Thanks.

  •  Hi Colin,

are you using the latest Syncrosoft LCC? Which version of the VI are you using?

How much RAM in your MacBookPro?

Vienna Ensemble is working perfectly fine on my MacBookPro here (2.33GHz 2CoreDuo, 3 GB RAM).

  • I believe I have the VI 1.12, Syncrosoft 5.2.8.2, and 2 GB of RAM.

    Very strange!

Did you update your Audio drivers? I also suggest to download and install the latest Syncrosoft LCC.

    Which hardware are you using?

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • I am quite busy now, so if my replies are few and far between, that is why.[:)]

When you say update my audio drivers, what exactly do you mean by 'update'? [:$]

I will download syncrosoft when I get a chance.

I have a Edirol FA-66 firewire audio interface, with a Kurzweil PC1X keyboard attached. The special edition is on a Western Digital MyBook Pro 500 GB 7200 RPM harddrive connected via firewire 800, but since the Edirol FA-66 is connected to the firewire 400 on my port, they are both just 400s.

I did get VI and VE to work, just by doing more reloading of logic after force quiting it. I had been having some troubles of recent with loading, because when I tried to load a project in logic with about 10 or so VI tracks, logic would load, but the little 'loading' sign would never pop up that does when the VIs load. So I would force quit Logic, and try again, and it would all load up fine. I usually needed to do this the first after I turned on my computer. So this might not be the fault of ensemble, but it certainly seems to be vienna software related. Also, I had never gotten the error messages until installing ensemble.

I am probably just muddying the waters more, but there is some more info for you. [H]

  • colin, regarding the error: is it really the LCC and does it say *application special edition caused an error* - i'm asking that because special edition is not an application in the meaning of beeing a program .... could you provide a screenshot?

i'd try the following: make sure no vienna instruments and vsldaemon is running, call VE directory manager, remove and re-add sample data location. repeat the process for VI. best practive would be to reboot between the actions.

also can you remember if you have originally VE installed while a vsldaemon from VI has been already running?

and: does the VE plugin show up as validated in the AU manager?

    christian

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Well, I haven't gotten the error message since, so I can't say for sure, but I believe it did say 'application'.

Another interesting thing that has been happening recently is that, after closing a logic project with VIs in it, vsldaemon will still show up in the activity moniter, and I have to force quit it.

I don't think I had any VIs up when installing VE, but, like I said before, vsldaemon had not been quiting when I closed Logic, so it could have been running when I installed VE.

Not sure where the AU manager is, but I thought that it would show up as not validated in logic before logic opened.

I haven't had any more trouble opening logic since when I first installed VE. But now, when I try to open VE inside of Logic on one of my audio instrument tracks, it opens VE fine, but freezes logic, so no midi comes through logic into VE. This has happened twice today.

Also, if I have a project with many tracks with VIs on them, and midi data recorded on them, how do I get these instruments to show up in VE, and play back the recorded midi from the tracks? Is this possible?

Thanks for trying to work me through all this.

  • Hi Colin,

the "vsldaemon" keeps running in the background when you start a VI, that has always been like that [:)], no worries.

If you want to use Vienna Instruments in the Vienna Ensemble instead of "plain" Vienna Instruments in your arrangement, the best way to go is as follows:

    1. Save the VI Presets you used in your arrangement
    2. Open a Vienna Ensemble, open as many VI´s as you need, and load the saved presets

You will need to connect the Vienna Ensemble through your Logic environment (just as with other multitimbral plugins like Spectrasonic´s "Stylus").

Maybe a Logic user will jump in with a more detailed description on how Logic handles all this (this falls under "How do I work with my sequencer?").

    Thanks [:)]

  • I'm using Vienna Ensemble in Logic 8. It works, but sometimes doesn't want to start up. Takes a few attempts. But what I am having trouble with is conceptual. First off, if I create a new patch in Vienna instruments, that is, load up a patch, customize it, etc, where do I save this patch? I can see where you can save an entire Vienna Ensemble setup, but I can't find where you save the individual patches anymore. Tom
