• Does VI OSX 1.1.2 work under Leopard?

Does VI OSX 1.1.2 (not ensemble) work under Leopard? thanx, SvK

  •  Hi SvK,

VI 1.12 does not work under Leopard in its current version, since the final build of the OS was only revealed upon release and all our efforts then went into the development of Vienna Ensemble.

I would not recommend to install any freshly released OS on your work system anyway, since common experience shows that it usually takes a couple of OS updates to allow the integration of all the components of your system in the new Operating System.

I usually create a dedicated partition for the new OS to experiment with it until I feel that it runs smoothly with everything I need from it and only then make it my main system.

I don´t say "never change a running system", but I learned the hard way to be very careful with major updates, especially of the OS.

We are working on it, please bear with us...

  •  Hi SvK,

Aha, that´s really good to know - thanks for reporting!

As I said, we never had the final release version of Leopard for development purposes, but obviously Apple fixed the problem our installer had in the  pre-release version! [:)]

  • Awww .. that's a shame .. I'm getting Leopard today .. Oh well I'll just have to run it on my other HD until the VI soft catches up. Looking forward to Leopard though .. particularly the backup feature .... never again will I loose a blasted Logic song .. or part of a midi :D

  •  Regarding testing Leopard with a dual boot system:

Reports at MacinTouch.com (http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/leopard/index.html#d26oct2007) suggest that if you install Leopard on a separate volume or partition for testing purposes, when you return to your usual startup disk, Spotlight will spend many hours rebuilding its database for all attached disks. The following is a report from a MacinTouch Reader:

"I could be wrong (and I hope that I am), but it appears that when a volume that had been used with Tiger is mounted on Leopard, the new cat touches the Spotlight database in such a way that if that volume is brought back to Tiger, the Spotlight database will have to rebuild itself.

When I booted my Intel iMac into Leopard from an external FW drive (for early qualification testing), and then later rebooted back into Tiger from the internal HD (to get my actual work done), all my Spotlight preferences were reset and mdimport began working for an estimated 9 hours.

I went back to Leopard and added my internal HD to the Privacy list, then went back to Tiger, where Spotlight again rebuilt the database. I haven't been willing to reboot into the new system again quite yet, as Spotlight rebuilding slows my machine down too much. But this seems to put quite a damper on dual-booting."

You are one lucky fellow, SvK!! I just read the following http://www.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=leopard_us&id=leopard&L=0&rdrctd&ftu=0d0bb4d3392ea68&flash=9 OT question-- why don't my spaces and paragraphs show up any more when posting?

  • Paragraphs are a 10.4.10 issue with VSL. No, I don't understand it either. But another poster noted that you can insert the following:

Type SHIFT comma (for the "less than" sign). Then type "br" (without the quotes). Then type SHIFT period (for the "greater than" sign). To double-space, do the sequence a second time.

  • JWL... I guess I am one lucky fella ;-) I did the upgrade path NOT clean install.....all is well (On 4 machines!) Kontakt2runs like a champ SvK

  • It seems it does not even work under Tiger 10.4.10 with Logic Studio 8, whether Intel or PPC. I get the AU tested positive and, yes, very important indeed, my license is thoroughly checked (takes ages) and is valid, hurray, but my instrument is not found, not a single sample to play. Can we have some intelligent mailings and support pages were all the problems and solutions are reported promptly, instead of ploughing through forum discussions and finding just hints and stuff? Music is my business, not debugging (yes I know, welcome to the real world, thank you). Marius

  •  My experience is this."Rescan Existing" does NOT work with VE. When I discovered this, I removed all library folders from VE's Directory Manager and then added them one by one - - a laborius task if you have, as I do, a large number of libraries. After this VE "saw" the libraries and worked with Logic 8.

  • Stevesong - I thought you could drag and drop the directories straight into the DIrectory Manager, rather than having to do it one by one...
