Hi people,
I'm a prospective buyer with many questions, some of which I could find answers to in this forum, some of which I couldn't. Much confusion ensued. Forgive me if this is all stupid or obvious, but I'm slightly overwhelmed by the amount of information, even though I've been looking through this site and forum for a while now.
1. From what I gathered, you get the user interface with pretty much any package you buy. So why IS there even a subforum about gigastudio and the performance tool when the vienna instruments/special edition are so much more easily manageable that way? Or is it only newer versions that can make use of the user interface?
2. It says you have to buy the vienna key seperately, but unlike with the other products, there's no price given. Obvioulsy, if I buy a package for 500 Euros and the Key is another 500, that puts the whole thing in a new light. I tried putting the Key in my "basket" just to see the price, to no result (using Firefox 2.0.0.8 on Win XP). And is this related to the above point - i.e. you can use the libraries with GS/perf tool but for the UI you need the Key?
3. And the most stupid question of them all: I'm slightly confused by some of the terminology, probably because names have changed and there are so many experienced users around. As far as I could figure out, "Vienna Instruments" refers to the entire collection of orchestral libraries, of which the Symphonic Cube is the most comprehensive package and i.e. the Apassionata Strings are one seperate item. The much mentioned Horizon and Opus series seem to have been discontinued. Have I got this basically right?
Again, I feel a right dork asking about basics like this, but I couldn't find anything in the forum (or a FAQ) that covers this. It's just that if I shell out one or two thousand bucks, I like to know what I'm getting into - and music store employees being what they are... well, you get the drift. Thanks in advance for any form of enlightenment. =)
