  • VSL Special Edition causes clicketty click pop click.?

Hello Seem to be having a touch of problems with VSL....anytime i load a instance of the VSL VI, i get a profusion of clicks and pops. This happens regardless of the size of the piece (in terms of other VI running) complexity whether or not there are other plugins running on the same track as VSL or not. I am running the latest version of VSL and am up to date with all software used. Also, i have done the learn/optimize samples route on the VSL VI without any improvement. I am running a G5 2x2 gig with 4 gig ram onboard, RME Multiface 2 X Powercore. I/O Buffer set at 256. Logic Audio Pro 7.2.3 Regards Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Krzysztof

  • Exactly the same here. VSL Special Edition on Mac G5, 2x2 GHz, 4GB RAM, Logic Pro 7.2, Motu HD 896. Clicks and pops, very annoiying, no chance to work with it in the moment. Bizarre : In my actual song there are only 3 small instances of VSL Instruments. Even if they´re disabled in Logic ( alt click on the plugin ) the problem´s still there. Just when they´re plugged out the song is working again. Found this, maybe this is the key ? : Apples activity manager shows an application called "vsldaemon". Not only that this one sounds frightening :) , the activity manager says "vsldaemon no reply". Opening the info tab says that the vsldaemon caused a system crash. Same at yout system, Krzysztof ? cheers, Ralf

  • hmm .. I'm running the same machine and Logic .. but my VI SE doesn't give any problems. I am using the built in Audio rather than an external device though. Perhaps this is a driver issue with external stuff .. try running Logic on the built in driver and see if that makes any difference. ... The VSL daemon is supposed to say "not responding" .. that's perfectly normal.

  • Hello Well the news on this end seems to be improving a touch. Upgraded to Logic 8, all seems to be good with VSL. Granted this is just my first attempt at VSL in L 8, but it does look promising. As a side note, Logic 8 is indeed a wonderful upgrade. Very good work being done in the Apple Audio camp. Regards Krzysztof

  • thanx hetoreyn, I´ve tried this already. Running these songs with built in audio doesn´t change anything in my case. Krzysztof, have you tried to open a song with vsl instruments that doesn´t work in Logic 7.2 in Logic 8 ? If not, could you try it with one song ? I´m in the middle of a huge project and haven´t planned to upgrade now, but if it´s really like the 7.2 songs are played back the same way in Logic 8 and the annoying problems with vsl are gone I´ll give this definetely a try. all the best, ralf

  • Hello Ralph........The example piece that i referred to in my previous e-mail was a 7.2.3 being played in 8. I must say that it only had 1 track using VSL, but it did indeed play without a hitch.( there was also a wide sprinkling of both EXS and the East/West orchestral libraries included in said piece, all played great) Just for fun i tried a quick 3 track VSL only ditty in L8 and all played well. It must be said that these are just my initial forays into L8, but so far everything recorded in L7 plays in L8. With regards to the running of previous projects, if L8 doesn't work to your satisfaction as a transfer from L7, then you can still finish your project in L7 (L8 doesn't overwrite L7). I assume that you have read through the Logic forums to get a sense of how projects are transferring for others, for me on balance there has been an improvement. As a side note, one of the new features that i'm quite happy with is the ability to have your score scroll under the clip in the arrangement, very convenient for "notereaders". Regards Krzysztof

  • Thanx Krzysztof - that sounds really interesting to me. Looks that this is gonna solve my problem. Wow, the score scroll sounds nice. 3 weeks ago I really needed this, but now all the string notations and recordings are finished - but I´m looking forward to use it on the next project. all the best, ralf
