Hello,
I can't seem to open Logic Pro 7 without having Core Audio get knocked offline. As things are loading all looks good and then all of a sudden Core Audio flips off. I have checked buffer sizes etc. to make sure they match and all is good. Everything worked great yesterday and then today for some reason Core Audio keeps failing. I updated Core Audio, updated VSL software and updated OS to OS X 10.4.10. Now, not only does the core audio switch off but a prompt appears telling me that "core audio: Plug-in Vienna Ins. not available." I don't know if this is a VSL problem or a core audio problem. What makes me think that it might be VSL is that any and all projects that I open in Logic that don't use VSL open perfectly fine and Core Audio stays on. Also, when opening just the stand alone, Core Audio more often gets switched off but when it doesn't, I have major clicks, Pops and crackles. Any suggestions out there? I am totally confused. Here is what I have for a system: Power Mac G5, 4 X 2.5 GHz. Memory is 16 GB DDR2 SDRAM. Bus Speed is 1.25 GHz. Thanks for the help

Core Audio Problems

Hi Chumley, Not in front of my studio system at the moment but 3 things you could try - make sure your audio buffer in Logic is at a minimum of 256k preferably 512K. Check whatever audio interface you are using is visible to core audio (open Audio MIDI Setup an app in Utilities) Try using internal audio "built in output" to check if the problem is also present on the internal Mac audio. Also try a permissions repair of your boot disc using the Apple Disc Utility programme. If non of this helps also check out that you have the latest version of ProApp support - a background programme that housekeeps a number of Apple pro apps (including Logic) Julian

Hey Julian, Thanks a lot for the suggestions. I actually did everything that you suggested over the past two days and I have located the problem through endless trouble shooting. I am happy to report that it was not a VSL problem, it was not an Apple issue, nor was it a Digidesign issue. Here it is for everyone to see and to remember when trouble shooting; CHECK YOUR CABLES EVERYONE!!! I have been doing this for so many years and feel really silly for not checking my cables first. At the end of the day the culprit was my firewire cable running from my Digi 002 to my computer. I Went out and got a new Firewire cable and everything runs beautifully. Thanks again Julian and best regards.
