    Hi Markus,

For best performance and results you would probably need to switch from protools to another software.

Some people here have been able to use the VSL VI in PT but performance is not as good as it would be with sonar or cubase.

Unfortunately I believe your MBox2mini does not have ASIO drivers so you can't use it with any other software like Sonar or Cubase.

Your options are slim if you want to stay with PTLE.

I recommend you switch to a different sequencing program so you can keep using the VSL VI as its benefits far outweight the benefits of PTLE

    good luck!

    Hello,

I'm new to Vienna Instruments, bought the special edition and because of insufficient informations on VSL website I have some problems with my setup now.
At the product homepage I saw, that the VI is available in the plugin formats VST and AU.
As a Pro Tools user I missed the RTAS plugin format (what a shame to VSL), but this doesn't annoyed me, because I've really good experiences with other VST plugins by using the VST-to-RTAS adapter from fxpansion.

So I thought, I can use the VI VST with my adapter. What a mistake.
The VI don't work very well with the vst-rtas adapter and some posts here confirm this.

Now, because a VI RTAS version seems not in sight (really a shame to VSL), I'm looking for a good way to also use the VI-SE.

Here some information about my audio computer setup. Currently, only one computer is available.
The computer is an PC!! AMD 3500 with 3GB RAM (will be upgraded next few months) with 1TB harddrive space and windows xp.

    As I mentioned, I'm using Pro-Tools LE with a MBox2-Mini.
Also I have a Creamware DSP System which primary output goes to the input of the MBox2. The Creamware card offers me additional 10 audio inputs for recording purposes and midi in/out.
My primary keyboard is a M-audio axiom connected to USB.

VI Standalone seems not practicale to me, because VI isn't multi timbral and so I'll need several instances for playing different instruments the same time.

So, these are some of the most important facts for the moment. [:)]

To keep latency as small as possible, I would prefer some internal stuff.
Maybe a VST host, which can also act as a rewire slave.

    Any ideas?

    regards
    Markus

    Hi Markus,

Ok, hopefully you can hang in there until Digi or VSL come up with a fix.

While its true that ProTools is the most widely used DAW for recording its not the most widely used DAW for composing. Most composers compose in another app like Logic and Digital Performer which are in heavy use by composers with Cubase and Sonar coming in behind them. Then, of course, the track get dumped into PTHD for final editing and mixing.

ProTools LE, although a fantastiic app, lacks many features that composers would like to have available.

    - No surround sound
    - Only 32 audio tracks which might not be enough for full orch arrangements that have auxilery instruments
    - No plugin delay compensation
    - No notation
    - Not a lot of midi features or editiors
    - No VST compatibility
    - No midi plugins

Maybe some of the above items are not important to you but the list can go on when you compare the features of the earlier mentioned apps to PT.

I think you would greatly benefit by following the "compose in software x and edit and mix your final tracks in PT" paradigm. Its kinda the best of both worlds.

    Good luck.

Currently I don't want to switch to any other sequencer program. I've worked with Cubase-SX and Sonar a long time, but Pro Tools seams at least the most user friendly to me with the overall best workflow.
I'd no problems using PT with other softsamplers, like Kontakt2, and it's not my interest to switch my sequencer because of a software instrument, that currently don't really support one of the world most used daw audio software.

I'm in hope, that VSL will release RTAS version of their instrument.

In the meantime hopefully someone has some ideas to resolve the problem.

    regards
    Markus
