  • Appassionata Strings in SE - legato included?

    Hello,

I'm trying to decide between Special Edition (extended) and Appassionata Strings (extended). I can't get both at the moment as I'm in the the middle of quite a few studio upgrades, so I have to plan purchases carefully. I will end up with both eventually, I'm sure.

I really love the sound of App Stgs, but there are a lot of other useful instruments in the SE extended package as well.

Here's my question. I know the Appassionata Strings "bonus" section in SE only has the sustain & staccato atriculations, but does that include the all-important legato samples/phrases as well? That's a crucial ingredient I'm lacking in all my other string libraries.

Thanks for any advice in advance,

    Jim Daneker

  • Hello Jim,

there are no legatos included in the Appassionata Strings excerpt that comes with the Special Edition.
Of course you can use the workaround to use the sustains from the Appassionata Strings and double these with the Performance Legatos from the Orchestral Strings [;)], by loading them in 2 slots of a cell (stacking them)...

  • Thanks, Paul.

I forgot to ask - are legatos included in the other string sections that come with SE (Chamber, Solo, etc.) - or are they just omitted from the Appassionata bonus section?

    Thanks for the reply,

    Jim

  • Hi Jim,

Legato is available for the rest of the string sections found in the Special Edition. This includes the Solo Strings, Chamber Strings, and Orchestral Strings.

  • Thanks for the replies, guys. I'm guessing since I don't have any VSL stuff yet that the SE might be a good "all 'rounder" to start with since it has a bit of everything, especially chamber, solo, orch & appassionata strings.

As I mentioned before, the biggest thing I'm missing in my other libraries (QLSO Platinum, etc.) is realistic legato. As much as I love the sound of appassionata, I might wait on that in favor of getting a bit of each with SE.

    Thanks again!

    Jim
