Hey guys, I am still on the fence on this one. I really need to have enough BITE in the new trpts. Is that possible with the perf rep - stacc patches?


This is a quick improvised example i just played into the daw of what my current 3-trpts in Vienna will do (have a little horn and bones as well) - but you will get the idea - will this new 6- trpts do something this fast WITH bite?

I looked in brass I demos ant there are only solo instruments.

The cornet sounds wonderful in the high register, it also sounds less forceful than a trumpet and I'm wondering if it's any easier to play in that register than the trumpet? Certainly sounds like it, but I'm wondering if anybody would know that?

If anything the cornet is more difficult to play in the very upper register although all good players should be able to play in the VSL range reasonably well.

Trumpet players are probably expected to play higher.

In the UK, and many european and antipodean countries the cornet is primarily used in Brass bands of whichthe line up is

1 soprano cornet in Eb
9 cornets in Bb
1 flugel horn in Bb
3 tenor horns in Eb (basically a baby tuba octave higher)
2 baritone horns in Bb (same as euphonium but narrower bore)
3 tenor trombones in Bb
1 Bass Trombone
2 Euphoniums in Bb
2 EEb basses (tubas)
2 BBb Basses (contrabass tubas)

The cornet rarely features in the orchestra. I can think of several Berlioz scores which require 2 trumpets and 2 cornets.

It does have a less strident sweeter sound than the trumpet and in the rght hands is very beautiful.

But my point was that the cornet seems to have some interesting qualities especially in the high register, the legato in that register is more effective than the trumpet for example, so this gave me an impression that it wasn't as forceful as the trumpet but I guess it is just sounds easier and smoother to the listener.

Thank you for the Special Brass demo - Those 6 trumpets are good but it seems that they sound close to the 3trumpets, contrary to the Epic Horns----> 4 Horns

I don't want to go to the trouble of finding that score not including the $, but if anyone has it and will kindly provide me with the orchestral score, at least the beginning I'd gladly do the first 16 bars or so.

Mmm...actually I had the chance to take a look at the original JP score and it was using 4 trumpets at the unison, not 6, it's the orchestration that make it stand out, he was doubling some harmonies in a very intelligent way with strings and synths.

Again, it's a matter of orchestration and mixing...

it's not only a matter of orchestration but a matter of power : 3 trumpets playing triple forte will have more power than 6 trumpets double forte ^^

the real problem is that John William's music need triple forte sample

That was done with custom samples.

I would like to see the power trumpets have a go at it.

Making trumpets sound good is a matter of mixing and placing within the orchestra. So far I've heard some really dry trumpet demos (acoustic wise) so I'd love to here more of far away setting of trumpets to see how they sound.

The original recording of Jurrassic Park is a good example.
