    I'm thinking about an auto-fade for the Xfader :

    For example, I play pp for a couple of notes and suddenly, I play forte. Right now, you have a "strange" effect because de transition between this notes is playing forte (in legato mode).

    With this feature, VSL VI auto-fade the Xfader from pp to forte (you could control the fade timing). Of course, you can do it with a breath controller but I could be nice ...

    Could it be interesting ?

  • Very interesting idea - as it is now I use the a controller - but having it automated would be quite sweet.

  • I cannot the the advantage of this feature.
    I use Overture 4.
    All what I have to do is to assign the breath controller (or another) to dynamics. I put pp in the score under a note, than ff.. and that was it.

    I think we should one point keep in mind: the more feature VSL will include in VI the CPU time consuming it will be.

    I prefere a strong and clean VI player - nice to have features should be included in the hosts!

    How does this stop the transition material from being appreciably louder than the preceding note? I just wouldn't use a legato instrument for the loud note.

    Very easy.
    I use in an expression or articulation a keyswitch, whith changes the matrix.

    BTW: Download a demo version of Overture 4 from geniesoft.com & try it out. Very handy!Sorry, that means nothing to me at all so I'm afraid that you'll have to explain it as to a 6 year old. My understanding is that the transition material is part of the succeeding sample so is played at the same dynamic. The only way to make this match the preceding dynamic is with a very (and I mean very) quick velocity xfade or volume/expression change.

    BTW thanks for the suggestion, but I wouldn't even consider using Overture, as the notation is poor when compared with Sibelius and the sequencer/audio features are non-existent when compared with Nuendo.

    I hate Sibelius & Nuendo. I cannot see any advatage of these programs.
    I prefer Overture & Sonar.

    That's fine, we are all entitled to our opinions. However no publisher that I work for will accept Overture generated music, although they will accept Sibelius, Finale or Score. Sonar does not have anywhere near the range of features of Nuendo, so if I used that I would also have to use yet another application like Pro Tools. For the work that you do it may make no difference, but I can assure you that for me it does.

    I would actually prefer to use one application for all my music needs, but so far that is not possible. Maybe this will all change now that Avid owns Sibelius.

    I especially published scores for classical guitar with publishers. I delivered the scores composed with Overture adjusted to there needs as PDF. And they take it.
    I was coming from Encore and tried several times the usage of Sibelius & Finale for my special needs but I gave up & switched years ago to Overture which I found was the best for my needs.

    I think it allways depends which what program you first started. In my case it was Sonar (notation is poor there) and not Cubase and so on.
    With all this program you may achieve the result you need.
    There exists more roads to Roma...
