  • Two unrelated questions.. VI ugprade pricing, and GigaPulse?

Question 1: if I buy, for example, VI Orchestral Strings I and II, and later I want to buy the full VI extended package, do I pay the price MINUS the price of the VI Orchestral Strings since I already own it?

Question 2: if I buy a VI sample lib.. which is VST.. how will this work with GigaPulse? Do I need the GigaPulse VST? I have a special "stage" setup in GigaStudio3 that lets me put instruments in different locations on stage.. close, far, left, right, etc. What reverb solutions are available to me in VI? What about stage placement?

  • Discounts are only given to the extended library based on what you prviously own. You can find this out on the discount calculator. Standard library doesn't off any discounts on the extended library but if you own say horizon stuff or the pro edition you can get some nice discounts.

VSL is developing a reverb called MIR but in the meantime you have to get something in VST format. Some options are Gigapulse VST as you mentioned, Altiverb 5 which seems to be the best solution, or something else out there. There are many choices so find what you think sounds the best. [:)]

  • I didn't see anything on the discount calculator that lets you figure out what your discount on the whole VI extended set would be if you owned pieces of VI. I see the part where you can indicate what you own but it only shows Horizon Series, and the old VSL Pro stuff. I just want to know that if I start buying pieces of VI (strings, then brass, etc.), that I would get a proper discount if I decided to buy the whole VI extended set.

sam, as far as i can see you have registered with two different email addresses - only one (the @samhulick.com) has products assigned.

to check out discounts please start here and select in the left column what you own. then choose the collections (standard or full) and press *recalculate* to display your price and discount(s)

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Christian: Yep, I saw that page.. but it only lets me calculate discounts based on what I own from VSL Pro and Horizon Series.. not VI. OK, example, the full VI is $10990. If I buy VSL Orchestral Strings I and II tomorrow.. then I want to buy the full VI a few months later, do I pay only $8490? ($10990 - $1310 - $1190 = $8490)

  • sam, as the note says, there are no discounts on a standard library, all discounts (for already registered products from former editions like pro or horizon) are subtracted from the price of the extended library.

for each collection applies: standard + extended = full
    possible upgrade paths are:
opus 1, opus 2 -> pro edition (complete orchestral package)
opus 1, opus 2 -> symphonic cube full
pro edition (complete orchestral package) -> symphonic cube full

  • Man.. either VSL's upgrade paths are slightly confusing or I'm mental. Probably the latter. [:D]

So if I buy VI Orchestral Strings I and II, Chamber Strings, and Percussion (all FULL.. standard + ext), then later I want to go ahead and buy the full VI Symphonic Cube.. I'd have to spend $10990, on top of the $4940 I already spent on the strings, percussion, and chamber strings. So I'd end up spending $15930?? Or I could just buy the rest of the VI instruments in pieces, but I think that would really get messy with all the boxes and DVDs lying around. I don't understand why, if I owned three or four VI instruments (FULL versions, not just standard or extended..but BOTH), I couldn't buy the full Symphonic Cube and be eligible for a discount since I already own three or four libs.

I feel stupid. Then again, it IS Monday..

  • sam, obviously you cannot receive a discount on brass if you have already registered woodwinds .... (as graphic example, but probably now i got you wrong)

the symphonic cube consists of 10 collections, each collection consists of a standard and an extended library.
if you purchase all 10 colections (=symphonic cube) standard in one run, you save $ 510 ($ 4.620 instead of $ 5.130 if you purchase the 10 collections seperately) - this is independant from discounts on extended libraries.

either if you have now decided to get all 10 standard libraries at once or only certain collections you receive a discount on the extended library (of each collection) depending on your registered *legacy products*

your example (registered opus 1, opus 2, french oboe, epic horns):
    first step:
purchase orch strings I, orch strings II, chamber strings, percussion (std+ext)
    full price:4,940 $ discount:-495 $ your price:4,445 $
    second step:
purchase solo strings, woodwinds I + II, brass I + II, harps (std+ext)
    full price:6,560 $ discount:-775 $ your price:5,785 $
    in total (both steps) full price:11.500 $ discount:-1.270 $ your price:10.230 $

alternate example (registered the same products):
    first step:
purchase symphonic cube standard (all 10 collections standard library)
full price: 4.620 $ (no discount)
orch strings I + II, chamber, perc (all extended)
    full price:2.740 $ discount:-495 $ your price:6.865 $
    second step:
purchase solo strings, woodwinds I + II, brass I + II, harps (all extended)
    full price:3.630 $ discount:-775 $ your price:2.855 $
    in total (both steps) full price:10.990 $ discount:-1270 $ your price:9.720 $

the *symphonic cube* is a package of the 10 collections, so you will have the 10 boxes and DVDs in any case (plus an additional box for the 10 collection boxes to keep them together in case you purchase SC in one run, which is said to be nice btw.)

    Hi... in short:

No, you dont pay for the same collections again, so you can buy them with no worries [:)]

Buying them seperately is slightly more expenssive then buying the whole package at once - but only marginaly so. around 500 bucks if I'm not mistaken...

  • OK, I got it now. So if I start buying VI in pieces (strings, then winds, etc), then I obviously need to continue buying the rest of the instruments as individual pieces. The only small down side is that I'll be spending an extra $500.

    Thanks guys!
