  • Plogue Bidule is pretty darn good from what I've seen but I don't know if it works with the 3gb switch which I think would be a must for any host. I would make sure that any host you use works with the switch.

  • I'll check it out. Is it complex? Some of teh hosts I have looked at do all kinds of other things than just host VST's

  • I wouldn't say complex as far as getting it to do the basic job. It's modular and allows for very in depth tweaking but the basic setup is very simple. The only issue that affects that is being able to control (pan vol etc) individual instruments. There's a certain way of doing that apparently which I'm looking into. It's very very stabile and may be the best of it's kind out there.

  • Hmmm.... Just trying the demo. Can't say I like the interface... grrr... Not my style. Of course if it works it works... So far I'm still struggling to get it to work. [:)]

    More suggestions of course still welcome.

  • Have you considered FX-Teleport (fx-max.com)? Then again, it is only for PC at the moment but is definitely a cool program. Check it out. A Mac version should be coming pretty soon.

  • Load a Midi Device

    Below that Load a VST Instrument than drag from a little white square on the Midi to the same on the VSTi.

    Below that load a (stereo) Mixer and drag two lines from two blue squares of the instrument to two blue squares on the mixer.

    Below that load an Audio Device and drag from the mixer outs (2 blue squares) to the audio device (stereo in and out connection)

    You can now save this as a default and not go through that again.

    Simple and Very solid program. I talk to heavy using pros that have tried all the platforms _extensively_ and say this one blows the others out totally.

    I use since 2 years forte by brainspawn.com. (VST, DXi, Rewire)
    Works very well with VI, Kontakt 2, GS3 and all kind of synthies like Albino3, Camel5k, Absynth3, M42 & so on.

  • If you're on the Mac, I suggest using Rax (http://www.plasq.com">http://www.plasq.com). It's very, very easy to use, and is rather stable according to my various tests.

  • I use Chainer for various reasons, but in your situation it might not have enough channels.

    I used chainer years ago.
    But they stoped developing the program.
    So it is far behind others like forte or bidule or energyXT.

  • The advantage is that it can host many plugs that are incompatible with FXT and can also be used as both VST insert and standalone.

    I "liked" V-Stack as a Host but than I found out it seems it can not work with Sample Rate 48khz on my Slave G5. It always switches back to 44.1. Can this be true?
    Any experience or workaround?

  • So I have it confirmed by Steinberg Support:

    V-Stack doesn´t work with Samplerate 48khz on a Mac as a Slave!!!
    Is there any other vst-host that can adress different channels of an Audio-Card (Rax can not!) and! work with 48khz other than Plogue Bidule?

    (Funny, I seem to be the first user of V-Stack to discover this issue)

    Probably because there are no sample libraries that run at 96kHz.

    i was talking about 48 khz. Where are all the film composers, do they all still work with 44.1? It´s so much more easy to work and deliver files in 48 since all Post Pro works with it. But no one seems to use V-Stack in this business???

  • There are actually a lot of film composers who work only in 44.1Khz, for practical and technical reasons.

    My boss is a successful arranger and film composer here in Los Angeles. He used to work at both formats (the recording industry works mostly at 48Khz), but this created many issues when switching from one format to the other, so we decided to do everything at 44.1Khz from now on.

    For most people, the gain in sound quality doesn't justify going to 48Khz. Plus, the VI samples were recorded at 44.1Khz [;)]

    It's always better to keep your whole system at the same sample rate and avoid any "on-the-fly" conversions.

    you are right, conversions back and forth are a drag.
    but since i switched my system to 48 completetly i save a lot time not having to convert for postpro. i can even drop mixes out of logic on the servers of the customer (and in film and tv they all work with 48khz), very convenient.
    plus: when i deliver an old-fashioned CD-burning it converts to 44.1 automatically.

    I was only wondering why obviously so many still work in 44.1, with so many advantages of 48 in workflow...
