  • When Portable: Firewire 800, or SATA II?

    Hi -

I'm finishing outfitting my 'dream' VI portable (laptop) and want to know: should I choose SATA II or Firewire 800 for my (external) drives? Drive suggestions? I'm coveting the WD 7200 Caviar (320GB), SATA II. Not in the market for 10,000 RPM...

    Thanks,

    Eric

  • I use very successfull "Lacie Bigger Disk Extreme", 500 Gbyte, connection firewire 400, 800 & USB 2. I run it with firewire 800 (using a Adaptec firewire 800 pci-card on the PC & HAMA PCMCIA Firewire 800 card for the Laptop). Lacie uses internal 2 250 GByte drives in Raid 0.
    Great drive.

Not true, they hold 2x500 GB drives inside. When u format, the space avail will read 460 GB, or close to it.

  • AFAIK there are several models available ... 500 GB, 650 GB, 1.000 GB - it seems all of them have 2 drives inside
