    How do I assign C11 to my keyboard in Cubase SX 3? Or is it usually done with just using the pencil tool? I'm curious also, if this really is important to use...Isn't it just another way of controlling Volume?

    BTW, I just purchased your Symphonic Cube VI [;)]. This brings up another question. Is it possible to work with just one computer or is multiple essential? If so, how many?

    Hello Austin,

    C11 is "expression", it controls the volume level of your chosen MIDI channel, you can assign any controller (preferrably continous) to it in your MIDI Setup or you can manually draw a curve in your Cubase (choose "expression" in the list of controllers you get in the Cubase Editor). Many musiciany use it to add more dynamic liveliness to their playing.

    Concerning the Symphonic Cube:

    Of course you can work with just one computer, this depends a lot on your workflow (that will definitely change with the Vienna Instruments). If you finish each section and use the RAM Optimize option, you will get very far.

    The more samples and instrument you want to have available at a time, the more computers will be helpful.

    Thanks Paul for your response. I am aware of drawing in a curve in Cubase using the "expression" in the edit mode but how do I say assign it to my keyboard instead? I would like to do "expression" in realtime [:)].

    As for workflow, I tend to compose with the essential instruments by movements and then fill it out later with the rest of the instruments. I'm not sure if one computer will be enough but I'm hoping it will work for now. I hear I will get double the size of ram for instruments compared to Gigastudio? If true, that will help for one computer at least initially!

    Hi Austin,

    with Vienna Instruments you simply rightdlick the fader on the screen and move the fader you want to have assigned.

    You can assign CC11 on your masterkeyboard (have a look in your manual), so that, e.g., the ModWheel sends CC11 instead of CC1, or you can use your MIDI Matrix to re-interpret the MIDI Data.

    I´ll have a look at SX3 the next time I´m using it, maybe someone else is quicker than me....

    Anyway, an additional MIDI Controller might help a lot if you´re into realtime controlling.

    When I use expression by drawing it in a part in Cubase SX 3 it turns off all the volume for the rest of the instrument except where I raised the expression...does that mean that you have to have expression all over a part including for just regular levels instead of just being able to control some parts that you want to get somre more volume out of... It seems as if your stuck with using expression over a whole track if you use it at all because it otherwise puts the volume to 0.
