  • No Repetition Mode in Opus 1

Hello, I have Opus 1 which does not have Repetition Mode. I would like to do a base line using the Bass Ensemble playing repeated staccato notes at a fairly brisk tempo. It sounds like I am getting the "machine gun" effect when I try to play several notes in a row from the keyboard, and it also is difficult to play them in time. It seems that this is what Repetition Mode is designed for, but as Opus 1 doesn't have it, is there a way of getting around the problems mentioned above? Or is there another set of VSL samples that does have Rep Mode that I could be using? Thx for suggestions, OJ [[;)]]

  • I would suggest trying the alternation mode (there are 2 variants of staccato) and seeing how you go. I've used this in the past with varying amounts of success.

Well I'd suggest doing what I do, and have done previously to over come the machine gun effect. Try changing the velocity values on each stac hit ever so slighly, don't let them be totally the same. As Orjames indicated the alternation tool would let you chose stac 1 and 2 but the keyswitching could get a little confusing ;D

Frankly I haven't had that much luck with Repetitions, I'm still using this old technique of varying velocity. Mainly cos I feel there's virtually no real control over how the repetitions are performed .. one day perhaps ;D

  • I sometimes also throw in a sfz or sffz note if the variations using different velocities and the stac1 and stac2 variations are not enough. The repetition mode makes only sense if you have the correspondent repetition samples, which have a special starting note, various repetitions and a special ending note. These are only provided in the Performance Set.

  • sometimes note grouping can help on that front too...like with 4s or 8s or triplet groups, and accenting the first of each group.
