  • Woodwind/Brass Crescendos with Opus 1

Aside from the trumpets, it appears that the brass and woodwind sections don't have a modwheel blend or velocity blend patches, so my query is, how would one accomplish crescendos with said instruments?

  • I'd try to either crossfade the velocities manually if you need to rely on the regular patches (using two instances of the same patch on two tracks in my sequencer) by using midi volume or the way I'd try first is to make use of the specific cresc-dim patches for the dynamics. If that's all too complicated or you need lengths that are not provided or it has to be done fast I'd just use the sustains f layer and create a midi volume envolpe on it to fade in likea crescendo.

    Hope this helps,

  • Ok, thanks PB, will try this out when I get a chance!

  • Also, if you are using midi volume for a crescendo, (are you using EXS24) switch on the filter and adjust the cut off point down a little for the quieter bits. Thus a crescendo held note or chord builds in timbre as well as volume.
