  • Advice for a set up.

    Hi! everyone,
Ok...I have cleared my initial doubts with your help. Now, I have more precise questions.

At the moment, I am running two Pcs - one with Pro tools LE Digi 002 rack and another with Gigastudio orchestra 3 with M-Audio Audiophile 192. I currently own only the Epic horns library. Over the past few months I have saved up some money and I am now planning to buy the VSL complete Pro edition. I am not an expert in using VSL at all. I have only started a couple of months back. Should I buy the complete edition first or buy the orchestral cube and then see how I get on with it? Or there is no problem in buying the whole thing first? Also, are the samples in the Horizon series new ones or will they be found in the complete pro edition? If they are new ones, then what is more advisable for me to buy - the complete edition or should I buy horizon series individually? Whts the difference? Can I use the Performance tool with the Cube and the complete edition?

    OR

I should buy the VSL Orchestral Cube and invest the rest of the money in a Pro tools HD system as in LE I keep running out of tracks. And what other better features does HD have? Or this is not reccomended? Please let me know, what you guys think about these issues.

ALSO: Does anyone know of a good Vocal library - Classical vocal like symphony of voices or something like that? SOV I cant use I think, because its not available in Giga and my CD rom could not read the disk anyway - I got it from my university library.

    Thanks.

    Please do reply.

Martin Bayless, the truth is in between. The Pro Edition is consisting of four packages, Strings, Brass & Woodwinds, Percussion and Performance Set. Each is an element of the Pro Edition while all together are the Pro Edition Complete Orchestral Package (COP) - the first three packages without the Performance Set would be the Pro Edition Cube.

    Quoted from an earlier thread:
[...] What product to choose? There are several choices here from VSL: Pro Edition, First Edition, Horizon Series. The First Edition is full orchestra with plenty of choices. The Pro Edition expands the first edition with new recordings. Later on btw. there will be the Orchestral Cube expanding the Pro Edition. From the Horizon series, the full orchestra is represented by Opus 1, which is an "essential" of the Pro Edition with the most interesting patches, cut down into a little package. The new Opus 2 is expanding Opus 1 as well as the First Edition with more sounds from the Pro Edition. You may want to get the full palette with all choices possible, and that's the Pro Edition Complete Orchestral Package. However if you choose a smaller package, have a look at the discount calculator to see what prices apply if you upgrade your packages to a bigger package (basically - get a price reduce of what you paid already, so you won't loose money starting smaller and upgrading your products later).

If you're deciding for the Pro Ed. C.O.P. there are still a few volumes from the Horizon series you might want look into, such as the Solo or Chamber Strings, French Oboe, Woodwind Ensembles, Epic Horns, etc. that are not or not fully contained in the Pro Edition. [...]

However there are also Horizon Series products that are fully contained in the Pro Ed. C.O.P. - like Opus 1 & 2, Fx Percussion etc.

I'll second that you, Tanuj, should choose the path Martin Bayless already suggested. You are not loosing anything this way but in fact have only benefits you couldn't have that easily otherwise plus saving some money right now. As for vocals, I also heard SOV could be translated completely with the internal Akai Giga translator. It's also my recommendation in this field. However if you are looking for the more powerful choir shots maybe Voices of the Apocalypse is more suited for you. There is also a new choir out from EastWest, an "old hat" from Peter Siedlaczek, and also something in development by VSL, but that won't be here before Christmas this year I guess.

    All the best,
    PolarBear
