  • educational price reduction?

    Hi all!

Well, the title is enough [:O] Is it planned? If so, how much? I asked the same question using the 'contact us' e-mail, but got no answer, people must be really busy out there... [:D]

  • The good news,
we have a pilot project running here in Vienna in cooperation with a Music Highschool. Here we want to find out which configuration is best for music students.

There will be education packages in the future, probably after our Pro Edition release.

    best wishes
    Herb

  • This is good news indeed! Please keep us informed on that topic! I as an ordinary home user could never afford the awesome library. I hope students at the university here in Vienna will also get a chance to buy a special edu edition sometime....

  • So it seems that the educational version would be a scaled-down version of the complete library. That is not exactly what I had in mind. For example, Garry Garritan offers %25 off for his library to academics and students. Even more, you can get gigastudio as part of the deal. That would make sense, and it would be easier to convince schools and universities to buy it if the price is reduced and one gets the same functionality. [:P]

  • - Bump -

So it looks like the educational version will be crippled, and probably more than 6 months away (after the Pro release). Can anybody confirm this?

    Thanks

They're probably just being careful how they set up the deal. In real life, these types of deals are often abused, e.g. friends of academics taking advantage of the offers, etc. Unfortunately, educational institutions are often hotbeds for file swapping among computer savvy students, and VSL should really make sure their copy protection is iron clad before they start actively courting that market.

Perhaps they could also stipulate in the license that the educational version could not be used to create any product that would be commercially released for sale.

  • Some more info about what could be a good idea towards the educational world. Scarbee is offering a 50% [[:|]] price cut, with a special license: it cannot be used commercially.

They require to send a copy of your students ID. That sounds to me like a wonderful solution. This can even convince home users that will never have their music played commercially anyway [:D]
