  • Opus 1, NO repetitions?

Hi, sorry if this has been talked about in another thread, but I did a search and nothing came up...

Why oh why don't we have repetions in Opus 1? I was so excited to get it that I neglected to notice that they didn't have them! Is this a clever way to get us to buy the Chamber Strings set if we want to pursue our wannabe Shostakovich pieces??

At least I got the Epic Horns so I can do my wannabe Tchaikovsky stuff....

  • not sure about yours, but my opus one came with brass repetitions >.> <.<

still, I'm with you, string and wind ones would be so sweet.

  • You don't have the rep's, only the add-ons listed in the articulation list under "bonus". You could use the alternations for this and program the performance tool in a way to make good use out of them. You have two versions of staccatos, and two of 0,3 second long as two of 0,5 second long marcatos. It's not exactly what you look for... Actually it's a clever way to get a performance set of the bigger editions, because Chamber Strings are not matching with your strings found in Opus 1 (however can be used to fully extend for what you intend to do, too). Actually I don't think you could expect them to be included at the price point of Opus 1.

On a sidenote... Reading from people more often lately they got packages not knowing what it would contain or assuming it would contain xy. I don't know why this is so popular when people spend large amounts of money, and even more so if I think about people bothering vendors for details about 15 euro/dollar products...

    All the best,
    PolarBear

  • Also, keep in mind that the repetitions use up a pretty hefty chunk of memory, and are a little trickier to use. I agree, it would be nice if they came with Opus 1, but it would also require more RAM, more planning, and so on...

  • oh thanks, I will try that out....

well, I'm not entirely bummed out, if anything it will force me to familiarize myself with the performance tool even more (especially if I attempt the method you suggested).

I suppose I went out and bought it without looking at everything first because I was just too impressed with it not too. I don't regret getting the opus 1 at all, and if I had to choose I would still get it in a heartbeat. Consider that I have no composing skills, no piano skills and I've already written something that I'm proud of. Of course this is %100 because the samples are so amazing, even a monkey like me can make something good.

  • I eat my words. After sitting down with the alternation tool for a half an hour, I see that you can indeed get some believable repetitions. I'm still having some trouble figuring it out, (for instance, it seems to only want to play a staccato when I want a sustained) but I'm sure with due time it will all be clear. I mean, it is just a computer and computers are easy to figure out.

  • It may sound like I was being sarcastic, but I wasn't. In fact the process of learning the performance tool becomes easier and easier as I go along. I can't wait til the tutorial dvd arrives because I'll have some frame of reference....

and yes computers are easy to figure out.
