Ok...just because I little debate is fun I'll reply.
I agree making music not to be performed by musicians doesn't make the music bad...in fact I'm quite sure there is plenty of great music like that. Why would you want to write music that isn't to be performed by living breathing people?
I'm sorry though....good composers are performers. So, thanks for that compliment. Every time your music is played you are a performer. To take away the real performance element of a piece of music really detracts from what makes music special. It takes away the really unique human element. Yeah, yeah...I know...the guy sits at his computer...I mean composer can choose the sample and style and sound he or she wants...and that is a human element I suppose. Music is about performance though. Different nuance/interpretation.
I'm not saying that a synthetic recording isn't valid music....but it lacks something intangible.
Would I ever write something to record it and not have it performed live?....sure. There is always a time and place for everything. Let us not be trapped into writing just to hear the computer perform it just because computers can do it so well now. There is so much to be gotten from the music that is written than one synthetic recording.
